  1. The REAL problem here is that the original poster asked a question and 4 "older chaps", folks who have raced in the series for a while and know the rules - myself, @pintodave, @wvumtnbkr, @Ray Franck all provided answers and/or quoted sections of the BCCR (ChampCar's rulebook) - yet a few of you can't seem to accept the answer and have prodded and tried to rules lawyer your way around the issue, or criticize the rules and the old chaps who tried to help by answering. Even @Grant posted below that he emailed Jay (our Head of Tech) and he posted Jay's answer, copied below. @Ray Franck is Jay's a

  4. I'll cut corners and Ill cheap out in plenty of places, but the roll cage isn't one of them. I fully expect to take points for parts of my cage, and there will be no questions as to whether or not its "safe enough". For those of you who have never tested your cage, it can happen when you least expect it.

  6. But if you don't post a question that you already know the answer to so you can get an answer that you don't like, how else are you supposed to project your displeasure on everyone else? OMG last post for this thread from me. It is just so absolutely ridiculous I just can't help myself. Like a train wreck.

You DO NOT have to run the tires or the decals! You DO NOT have to run the tires or the decals! But if you want the free tires, you have to run the decal on the front fenders sides. and have at least two Maxxis VR-1 tires on for the duration of the event. and have a receipt showing you purchased 4 tires. 25. If you have a chip on your shoulder from previous go-arounds with tech, fine. I've got plenty of answers from Champ tech, past, present (and probably future...) that I have disagreed with. Not a lot to interpret in this particular thread. Questions asked. Questions answered. Is there still something in pp.7-9 that is that ambiguous? Not for what you want to hear, but for what is actually written? Edit: and I am seriously not trying to be a dck, I am just lost on this conversation. Of all fights to pick and things to complain about in the rules, this just seems so blat

  26. Checking in from the Class B #820 Needsmoegas Nissan 240SX. We all had a great time running with ChampCar and despite some electrical issues on Saturday we were quite happy with our 3rd and 4th in class finishes over the 2 days. I want to thank all of the people at ChampCar, all of the sponsors, all of the track workers, and all of the other drivers for making this a great first experience in wheel-to-wheel racing for me. I was the only newbie on our team, so new that the first time I ever drove the car was at the Test & Tune on Friday, so pulling out onto the hot track on Satu

  27. Yes, there is something in the rules that say where it should be "windshield line" edit: "UPPER WINDSCREEN LINE" (p.7 3.2.2 in both 2019 & 2020 BCCR). So you have no windshield? Free for all!!!! Oops, wait, there are those pesky PICTURES showing you approximately what your Cage should look like. For the record, I had no problem with your original question. Nothing wrong with asking. But then your piling on that it's a free-for-all and nobody follows the rules was a bit extreme. I'm the first one to be vocal about rules stability and things of that nature, but to lump a cage bu

  31. This is the best picture I could find of the Probe that runs as a convertible. They have done an excellent job using sheet metal to make a make-shift tonue (spelling, sorry) that covers the whole passenger side and rear hatch area. But per the rules... they had to have cage above. This 300Z also is running without a windshield... but it per the rules it also has the cage over the passenger side. All three of the examples you have been shown are of very fast cars, I am sure any of them would have run less cage if allowed but the rules on this issue are

  35. 3.2.1. The main hoop (behind the driver, labeled “1” in Figure A) must be the full width of the cockpit for all cars. It must be one continuous length of tubing with smooth bends and no evidence of mandrel crimping or wall failure. The BCCR seems pretty clear to me - but someone will always try to be a rules lawyer. At roughly 1.7 lbs/foot for 1.75" tubing, is the 4-5 lbs saved really worth arguing about? SMH...

  36. Since we do a pair of 10s for Indy, maybe we can do a pair of 8s for COTA. My car can't make it on fuel (2 hour stints) so i will have 5 total drivers but then i don't get to drive on Sunday as the team owner. It is what it is...unless we go twin 8s there.

  40. Maybe? My car refuses to start, so may need garage to continue figuring out why it doesn't start. Great compression, correct timing (cam and ignition), strong spark, correct fuel pressure, and not a single fire from any of the cylinders, even with a giant blast of ether. Just cranks and cranks and cranks (at 180rpm, never dropping below 11 volts).
