  1. Guys we are looking to adjust all huge fuel tanked cars with low VPIs. We don't want to play whack a mole with just the Vette. We are working on it.

  2. The clips I ran together were not from any of the race broadcasts. They were from a few of my race recaps, a random drivers meeting and a couple of the CEO's red flag videos. 98% of the ChampCar video's you see are coming from my desk, including the dull ones. Unlike some who think they've seen the majority, I've seen every single one. I've been working with these people for four years now and know each of them well. I can assure you that they are all grateful for the members and speak of it in videos as I've demonstrated. Even the tippy top management know that racers can race anywhere

  3. Only thing that can do that effectively is you seeing the final product. My direction from the CEO and BOD is that I am not to change the intent of anything without approval. Which makes perfect sense.

  4. Sorry you find my videos dull. I guess that's to be expected. Since you've already seen the majority of my videos, here's a sample of a few I threw together that would likely surprise you. I have many more examples.

  5. I will answer one of the issues. I thank every team I meet at every race I go to which is 99% of the races. I thank them for choosing us to race with, and I hope they come back. I know for a fact that our team of event directors do the exact same thing. I do it in emails, in private messages, and to their faces. I would even do it on the show from time to time. this issue was looked at from the highest. it has been worked through, and you will see results in the coming weeks. We don't put dirty laundry out there for all to see, though the Internet loves this. We won't pl

  6. I'll be honest. Bracket endurance racing sounds like The most boring thing in the world. Who wants to drive around with a bunch of rich guys who are either sand bagging, or sucky drivers. Hard pass.

  9. Wait, @Huggy actually got approval to do a re-write? I was a little impatient to see the new rules, but if Chris is doing a proper evaluation of the wording, then it's likely worth the wait. That's a big undertaking, but an important one.

  10. Yah, I don't think they're talking about the race broadcasts. You do a fantastic job with ChampCarLive, and I believe we're a better series because of it. None of the other ameture series have anything close. If the racing seems boring, (like Indy Saturday) it's because it wasn't much of a race. It was just a really fast pace car running down the clock. Y'all made the best of it, and there are many of us who would sorely miss it if it were gone. Thanks for putting it together.

  12. I've been a driver on teams taking overall wins at races in CC, 24HOL, WRL and LDRL. Hardest I have ever worked at driving, by far, was the "bracket" race FWIW. I would suggest you "don't knock it till you've tried it".

  13. Bill still "owns" the book as the media guy, I just get a shot at review before it gets sent to the BOD for their approval. I've been doing some house (roof repair) work this week, but I will get my current review done this weekend at the latest. I believe we are on round 5 so far.

  15. Patience everyone. The guys at Riley are working as fast as they can writing the 2021 rulebook so they can turn it over to the series for publication.

  16. It ain't a matter of GBU building a car and spanking the field. It is a matter of tech not enforcing the BCCR equally to everyone. Certain teams had blind eyes looking at them while others were raked with fine toothed combs. And if you take the time to look, a pattern is emerging.

  17. Ron, that's not it at all. The Vette will be re-teched at Road America. But there are a slew of old cars with huge tanks, we can play whack a mole and just adjust the Vette, but then it will be a new tunaslapper buried in the vpi table. We want to take care of a bunch of these/all of them at the same time for 2021. None of them is regularly run that I am aware of. The new key to winning in this series is to start with a car with a large gas tank. Then you put a thirsty powerful motor in it and viola! contender. Or with a great team like Riley, an overdog.

  25. I’m considering throwing my white BMW hat in the ring... Among other things, I have been disappointed with how the tech desk has functioned this year... it was supposed to (I thought) end all the secret freebies that were out there, and while it has done that, it ended them by publishing the freebies and adding a whole lot more!!! Does the BOD have oversight here? Maybe, maybe not, but I don’t like it and maybe could do something about it. Also, I think what ChampCar has is unique and should be preserved and improved. I was very alarmed at the “Rich-car” id

  28. Well this should provide some entertainment for my lunch hours over the next month. Let me get this straight, a complete cheater car with its own secret rule book exposed the cracks in the rule book for the commoner teams? So if an E30 showed up with a turbo and tech approves it as a hair dryer for driver comfort then said car lays waste to the field that would result in all BMW's getting hit with a 100+ point increase? If points increases are coming this would be a great time to treat everybody fairly and hit some other obvious ones as well, not just the TBird for leading Tyler

  29. Hey C_leffe. Sorry about the trophy. I did forward a message out about this to the company slack to get back with you but most everyone is getting ready for a race this weekend. If you haven't already, I'd send an email to info@champcar.org. That's usually faster than using social media like the forum and FB and is more of a guarantee to be seen and routed to the right person(s). See you at the track!

  31. Appreciate the feedback. May want to wait until after the road America re-tech and discussion about mods and what was claimed and what wasn’t and how certain mods were given such a low value. It may be the case that the VPI doesn’t need as big a change as it currently appears once it is teched fairly (assuming it wasn’t teched fairly already). I would hate for this to sharpen the pitchforks of certain members who would just love to say “oh wow, a corvette wins one time and the VPI goes way up but BMWs have been winning since inception!”

  33. It's been a few years but we had a 5th and 6th in an e30. We do need help to get a good finish which is pretty typical for us. Not the fastest but try and keep it in the hunt and see what strategy call can be made. Sebring is probably my favorite track, I'd love to bring the e30 down to try again.

  34. Try to do one travel race a year with my car. This year was supposed to be WGI. 2017 did RA and AMP 2018 did RA 2019 did RA and Charlotte 3 races in my back yard is a blessing (and a curse) because why would I not run all 3 when they are so close. See you at Sebring again this year. Eventually get my car down there too, I think we could do well despite it being a power track

  36. How can you get a warning if you are to fast?? Sounds like the strategy would be to have your fastest driver drive slow and safe? So it becomes a game of not driving fast but driving at specific lap time? Edit: would make sense if you had a very experienced driver drive all cars and classify them. But sounds nuts

  37. Short rulebooks with no bookends = big dollars. There is another series that limits speed creep based on minimum lap times. If you are 9sec a lap faster than the rest of the field, you get a warning and if you fail to heed said warning, you get bumped to EC for that race. You want to spend $75,000 on a car you can only run slightly faster than a spec e46, have at it, but it keeps those teams in check but allows them to spend whatever they want. Its not perfect by any means, but its better than nothing.

  39. We brought Chris on as the technical writer (approved by the BOD and volunteer position) as he has awesome skills and we wanted to use his talents as well within ChampCar. I believe Chris's technical skills will make the BCCR better. We did announce this at the BOD meeting last month. Again I will apologize on behalf of the organization on delaying this BCCR release, but I know it will be good with Chris on board.

  41. You mean essentially like this: That's just a typical aftermarket race car part to relocate the filler neck to the highest part of the system. The Corvette rad is mounted low and angled so filling the rad via a conventional filler neck and rad cap would leave the engine partly dry. The reason for the stock expansion tank with the purge line coming off the right top corner of the stock rad is to get the air out of the rad on the older Corvettes; again, I've worked on some but am not an expert... I looked at the picture and didn't see an expansion tank unless it's h

  42. Chris Huggins, our new Tech Writer, is combing through the rulebook to make sure it is technically written. He has done a lot of work in a short time. I have not seen a draft copy yet, but should see one soon so the BOD can look over it and approve or make suggestions for changes. Please be patient. I also know that the BOD is having discussions on VPIs that were recommended by TAC.

  43. How do they get free alum expansion tanks the Miata NC and E30 do not? I personally do not need one, but I think these should be free. On the Miata NC, if you replace it every race or every other race you will never have an issue. It costs like $200 or something I am told. If you spend less than that on an aluminum one you are good for life. Same result, it just saves teams lots of money. This money can go towards another race entry and all will be happy then. Sure it can add reliability, but a coolant tank blowing up and killing and engine. I do not want to see a competitor ever f

  45. You're not the only disenfranchised former WRL member. We planned to build a car specifically for their series, only to have entry fees jump by 20-50% with no value add, along with a bunch of races within reasonable distance being canceled. We've come back to CCES because it most closely aligns with our goal as a team. But we do want to compete, and after watching the Indy broadcasts, there is no competing with the Riley Corvette unless it breaks, or it carries a large MOV penalty on the second day of a two day race weekend. Day one of the Indy broadcast was boring because the c

  48. I understand your post in this topic far more than the previous one! I will chime in and say I think most of us who are unhappy with this situation have only the best of intentions when we want it corrected. If frankensupercars are allowed to run amok in the series it will only kill participation over time (you highlighted this well with your thoughts as a newbie considering champcar). People want a chance to compete and don't want to be blown out of the water by something that seems to play by a different, unpublished rulebook. You make many good points - in particular, becoming adversa

  49. This was our first ChampCar race and a very much last minute decision when we heard entries were down and the requirement to have run other races was being relaxed. My team are located in Indiana, Ohio and I'm in St Louis so it was too good to pass up. Our car debuted at and won the LuckyDog race at the Charlotte Roval a few weeks back finishing with a failing transmission and bad oil cooler pump so I figured it would be easy enough to turn around in a week once we made the call.... then I remembered all the other parts we used up at Charlotte and started ordering parts with express shipp
