  1. FORD BEATS PORSCHE! Congrats to MK Motorsports and their win at Sebring! They took their green 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra to the front of the pack to beat the 2nd and 3rd place Sahlen's Porsche Boxsters. They also won four $750 certificates to purchase new Bell Helmets from Bell Racing Sahlen's took home 4x $400 and 4x $100 Bell Racing certificates for finishing 2nd and 3rd overall. Crowd Control Racing held off Level One Racing to take the Florida Mini-Championship win for 2020. Over four races, Daytona 14-Hour, Palm Beach 8+7-

  2. What a race. Sebring last year ended before it started for us with a seized con rod during Friday practice. Nearly 12 months later we returned with new and tested engine, thanks @Huggy. New group of drivers and crew, except me, as well. I got a dozen laps on Friday to get an idea of the track layout. Race started with us forgetting to secure the window net, so we started nearly last. After that we started to settle in for a long race. First two drivers got all the dry stints and as soon as I got in the car the rain started. If I was holding anyone up or got in your way I’m sorry and it wasn’t

  3. 5.6. DAY TWO HANDICAP 5.6.1. For two-day endurance events (that is two separate races), the winning car on day one will receive a lap penalty on day two equal to the number of laps they won by on day one plus one extra lap. No victory penalties will follow a team once the weekend of racing is over. If it is 2 seperate races, the day one winner gets MOV per the BCCR. If it is a single championship race there is no MOV.

  4. Our first race in Champcar. Car 248, Mazda RX8. Bought the car 2 months ago, and spent the time getting it race ready, safety wise. Total performance improvements involved getting a better air filter. We were slow as one would expect of a strictly stock vehicle with street tires, especially in the wet. We learned a great deal about ourselves, the car, the series and Sebring itself. Now we can make improvements to the brakes, power, suspension, and get ready for VIR. Thanks to the Champcar organization and workers for their totally professional support.

  5. Been waiting for this thread to pop up! Congrats to all the winners, it was a very slippery race! This was our best race ever! Easily. All the work we put into the car since Daytona has paid off beyond our wildest dreams. One of our drivers gained an unbelievable 9 seconds over last Sebring, with two others gaining five and seven seconds each. I got zero even sorta dry laps, and was only able to lose 3 seconds over my best time last year. My team is going to rub that in for a long time coming - it's the first time since we started racing that I didn't set the fast

  6. Mean Green Swine continuing to get better with each race. We had the Daytona 10th place finish (but an engine that was already iffy and low on compression), the Indy 13th place finish (with the great new engine we built after Daytona, but lost the clutch and transmission) and now a 12th at Sebring (5th in class and the second-highest BMW finish behind Gorilla Sticker). So we are very pleased with the development of the car and, while we are seeing a lot of E36 teams going EC, that's not the direction we want to take it. So Mean Green's 2020 debut season was pretty successful for a $700 car tha

  7. everyone who wants parc-ferme should also be calling for the minimum races to be 5. i mean after all its supposed to be a true endurance test right? shouldn't the NATIONAL champion have run races all over the country?

  8. You wouldn't get a 12 hour break in a 14+ hour race to change brake pads/transmission/shocks in our case a throttle linkage or whatever else breaks either. If were going to break in the middle Its not a 14+ hour race its 2 races 8hrs and 7hrs like the 19 other ones. Why run it different than the others like it that qualified us to be here? If we want one 15 hour race then its parc fume.

  10. The argument of reliability versus performance is a never ending pandora's box. I would like cars to be more reliable, and it seems like free reliability parts would be the way to do this but its not a simple solution. Free reliability items opens up the interpretation of what is and is not a reliability item; is a more reliable car not a better performing car too.... All the discussions about doing this have ended with, racing costing more money, which we are trying to avoid. If you have the points to spare add the reliability items you need. Finishing the race is better than turning the fas

  11. Wow, Ed, that's insane. Sorry to hear all that, definitely a lack of star alignment for you and particularly your driver. That sucks. Looking forward to seeing you at Daytona next year! Glad you at least got some seat time in!

  12. I don't agree with an MOV penalty. You wouldn't suddenly assess an MOV penalty halfway into a 14+ hour race.

  13. I'd support this if Champcar ran races all over. I try to run every endurance race within a 20 hr drive. Unfortunately the schedule is significantly less regionally diverse then when it launched. Take a look at the event Map. There are 5 (with Harris Hill run twice) events west of Elkhart Lake (Road America). None outside California or Texas. None in the red circle.

  14. Nice save and good for you to go full send again. I lost the brakes going into turn 5 at Road America 5-6 years ago and still have not gotten over it as it really scared the crap out of me. I tell my brain to go deeper into 5 and right foot applies the brake early. The data shows I am loosing .5 to .7 a lap there compared to the drivers. I need to get over it for next time and will dang it.

  17. Those wings are awesome!!! We put one on after the Nelson race in July. We’ve been back a couple times since and have shaved 4 seconds off of our best lap there. It was good for about 3 seconds at PIRC over our previous best.

  18. Teams could still do well.. if you are a championship contender, deal with the parc ferme. If you have problems Saturday, drop out of the championship race and just run for the race win on Sunday! Only the championship contenders need to worry about parc ferme. Every body else can do the 2 day race as 2 races....

  19. I have raced the National Championships under both formats, once in 2018 and once in 2020-RVA Graphics won them both. The fact is that more cars will be running at the end if you allow some maintenance to occur overnight. Most teams gave very positive feedback this year. I wish more cars had made the tow to Sonoma instead of snow racing at Atlanta-it was a great event at a great venue. Yes, parc ferme will earn you a "real endurance racer badge", but lots more teams will go home happy if they are able to complete race distance both days. I agree with Schultz--I like

  20. 1 weekend is typically 2 races. Even if you did a 14 or 24, you only need 3 weekends fyi. Still not easy, just typing this for clarification.
    1 point
  21. I definitely don't think that is the case; there are other series running events in that circle. That said I fully understand why Champcar isn't running those events in these troubling times. My point was NOT a shot at Champcar, it was a rebuttal to MoparBoyy saying we should limit Championship cars to those running 5 [3 race weekends] or more races. I fully support the new direction of 2 race weekends. It is a reasonable accommodation.

  22. As I've now said twice, make it three times, this does not apply to Championship weekend.

  23. But there's no MOV penalty even in twin races for the Championship. There wasn't last year either.
    1 point
  24. You also wouldn't stop a 14+hour race for maintenance time. I think you are arguing two things at the same time. The championship is two races so no parc ferme. It is also not two races so no MOV.

  25. I think my camera had died when it happen, but I think your car had a lazy spin right in front of me in the middle of 16/17 sometime around 3pm hour. It was like the slowest spin ever in the fastest part of that track...

  26. I lost brakes at NJMP back in 2015 and purposely threw it into a spin which kept it off the wall. Nice job here. whew.

  27. That was me, and yes after the pedal went to the floor the first time I pumped it and thought if I spun it it would slow faster /do less damage than going straight in right or wrong I don't know but its what I did. Lets say it took a few laps to full send it into Canada after that. Hidden plus was me slowing to let that Porsche pass into the kink. Normal speeds running the kink are 120-125 ish into Canada.

  28. Wow, did he try to spin it right away to slow down? Wow, I would be more than a little shaken after that.

  31. I have run under both formats too, and I also like the split two day format better. To say it is now two sprint races when in fact it's two 8 hour races is a big leap. A sprint race outside of Champcar is a 20 or 40 minute race, not eight hours.

  32. well there is no Driver Champion in Champ, only Car/Team Championship. IMSA has both, but we dont track driver finishes so that makes it impossible.

  36. Sorry for the delayed response this week took a nose dive lol ++I am in favor of continuing to focus on the overall win as the main objectives, as we currently do. However I'd like to look at what an adjustment to the classes based on points would look like for our membership. We have not purposed the break points that delineate classes, we want this to make sense, so we are currently collecting data this year to look through. I am interested to see how many points the majority of the field has. Are most team maxed out? Or are there a lot of team running vastly under 500pts. These will

  37. This is the championship..... If you have a crap day on Saturday or Sunday on either format, you aint winning.
    1 point
  38. Like Snorman, I am traveling half way across the country for this race weekend. If the car had an issue on Saturday, Sunday becomes a complete bust if it is parc ferme. If it is two races, the fun resets. And the winner is ultimately going to be the car that covers the most ground over the two days, because there is going to be at least one fast car that has a completely clean race, whether you do it as two races or one.

  39. The flipside to this is to say we play by one set of rules most of the year, but we're going to change it for one race? Thats like playing the NFL season under one set of rules, but the SB under a different set. Just sayin.

  40. I have a Radium 2.0liter surge tank, nice quality and the same lift pump as ATX30 (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crt-p4594) Also running a hydramat. The surgetank has a level sensor so when you are about 80% left in the surge tank a light goes on, then you have 1-2 laps left depending on track. For us that is just at the 1:50-1:55 mark. Since there is a hydramat in the tank there is 0% fuel left in the fuel tank. edit: Fuel cell gives you more fuel ofcourse but costly to do nice on the NC miata unless you are a fabricator.

  42. I'm not a qualified racer in any way. I learned through video games (gasp! he didn't say SIMULATORS), drifting, and just getting seat time. I'm not even a "qualified instructor" for HPDE's. I have pretty much zero formal driving experience at all. I did one DE, got signed off as solo, and away I went. Therefore, my opinion on the importance of that is probably abnormal. I would LOVE to try my hand at SpecE30 or SpecE46, but the "license" requirements have been a hurdle I have not overcome thus far in my life. I don't want champcar to have that kinda hurdle. I like

  43. Thanks! Haha I think Rob kinda beat me too it though. I'd rather be on the BOD because the members think I can do the right thing for the club. Also, the 24 performance this year was far, far, far from just me. There are close to 20 people who all made a major impact in that weekend. Chip's son Colin and his roommate Alston did all but 2 of the 24 fuelings, some back-to-back. My brother Andy and my buddy Alex played crewchief for 2 cars and never missed a beat Ron makes our splitters, tows one car to the track, sets up the pits, makes fuel ru

  44. I will take this election process to understand the series a little better. As I understand it the TAC makes VPI recommendations to the board and the board votes on those recommendations. A recent bewildering example is the Cobra being raised by 50 points despite it being mostly on par with other podium cars: Did you vote for or against this? What was your reasoning? When there is a significant VPI adjustment do you think the reasoning should be made public? Note: I have not been a ChampCar member for a couple of years so your reply will not affect my vote as I

  50. I still haven't figured this one out. 5 gallon dump can x3 (or 4) probes and no real speed advantage (that I have seen/heard yet). "If" we were doing a fuel hose from an overhead rig, or larger dump cans...then maybe. I still have a couple probes and receptacles (and an 11 gallon dump can) stashed away just in case...
