  1. If I didn’t know better I would say it looks silly to have a desired final point value in mind for a car + engine combo and then fudge numbers in a calculator until it spits out something close to what was desired. One might look at that and say it would be better to eliminate the formula and simply assign that post-swap value for a given car + engine combo.

  2. How are we on the topic of slowing down miata’s? This is what happened to your Champcar 2021. Move along to another thread. On topic, we installed a new fuel cell we got a banging deal on, in doing so i need to relocate the fuel pumps, and surge tank, as well as re-fab the sheet metal in the rear lol. Anyone looking for a 22gal fuel cell with 1 year of cert left fully setup with venting, discriminator, and hydramat? We then started cleaning and re-lubing our suspension components. Next is nut and bolt check everything, put on lock nuts, and were waiting for Spring Road

  4. I built a thunderbird Circle track car in Florida 15 years ago with a Lincoln MkVIII engine. The rules were 358 c.i. Limit. The tack officials had no clue about the cammer motors from Ford. It took us about a month to get that motor running with jerry rigged wiring, ECU from a wrecked cobra and A LOT of bad words. Took us about 1 month to figure out how to get the car to turn. We then did not loose a race for 14 weeks in a row. Had a bounty on us. As I am sure you can guess we got wreck often until the end of the season. The motor was outlawed for the next season. It was fun while it last

  6. How about just using the swap calc, with the real weight numbers, and let the chips fall where they may? Saves everyone a lot of work. And accusations of favoritism will fade when one can't point out the absurdity of a 1988 CRX having a swap weight of 2300 pounds or an E30 being as heavy as a Mustang. If it is so important that E30's be able to run their M50 or whatever it is with no laps just drop the VPI the 7 or 10 points it takes to do it. Boom. Done. Simple.

  10. Plus there's usually a good variety of wire colours to choose from. (Avoid MB wiring from the early to mid '90s, they went with soy-based biodegradable insulation to appease the econuts. Lots of whole cars including the top of the line 600SELs got tossed because of this misguided save-the-planet effort; crumbling insulation and the resulting electrical gremlins) Have I mentioned how much I hate it when someone buys a 500 foot roll of blue wire and rewires the entire car with it?

  15. Interesting question and rebuttal. If 3 Camaro’s or Mustangs sweep the podiums at....let’s say Daytona, there would be no points increase? And was the FTD at COTA a Miata? Maybe we do need to review the Points for the Miata.

  19. Exciting times in the CCiS, as we head to Virginia International Raceway to experience the debut of a new vehicle in the league. It's FWD, it's disconcertingly quiet, and it understeers like a greased penguin. That's right, it's the Volkswagen Jetta TDI. This event promises to be tight and competitive, as passing is difficult but offtrack adventures are frequent. Our first round of the season featured some great clean racing, so looking forward to this different challenge. 20. So, what's an 87 rx7 with a 3500 swap value? As an example? In other words, how do you come up with the initial value?

  21. I think Enginerd is suggesting we only value the swaps actually raced, which I doubt has thousands of combos. I am not sure we even have 1000 cars that have run in the series last year across all makes. Of the 14 cars you listed... 6 have manipulations in the weight or swap starting value, several of these race cars could leave the stock engine in the trunk and still meet these weights.... . If your swapped car had been run that would be half the list.... Integra 944 Supra (swap weight of 3600 lbs for a 88 model) Eclipse Rx7 Mr2

  23. 1) Initially, only set value for currently used swaps 2) If a current swap value is already well liked and isn’t seen as dominant (e30 with m50b25 @ 500) then just push that value into the new table. (Many swap values could be pushed right through because as a result of weight and VPI fudging, the current swap values are pretty close to what was desired!) 3) Values from (2) set the precedent for other similar swaps. For instance, based on e30 with m50b25, a value of 510 or so? could be set for m52b28 since it’s definitely a better engine. 4) Moot point now, but it would have eli

  24. Or just adjust the VPI if deemed necessary. Dropping the E30 ten points (iirc) would have allowed the swap the car's weight was adjusted upward, to a ridiculous number, to allow. The swap calc has been ruined with these "adjustments". It's just used as an undercover way to adjust performance of particular cars now and that is not what it was put in for. From an unbiased, weights based on published numbers performance limiter to a bunch of fudged numbers changed on a whim with no notice. Exactly what it was designed to prevent.

  25. I'm sure they're less expensive, and there are a ton of 4.6 DOHCs out there. They were in '96-'01 Cobras, and all basically the same engine with intake differences. But, you get into a complicated assembly with allll of the associated hardware and possible failure points in a 4-cam, 32-valve engine. And it's physically big, which is true of all of the 4.6s both SOHC and DOHC.

  28. Yeah, the hp is going to be a bit of an issue. It's already tough with 240 hp and a 15.4 gallon OE tank, 305-320 is going to be much worse. But I do think it would be awesome to come screaming up the front straight at Sebring at 7000 rpm!

  29. *I certainly do NOT speak for the remainder of the BOD or TAC with this statement, so feel free to be upset with me if you disagree.* As of right now, my understanding is that the 318ti is not able to swap using its 350 base vpi. If you go to the swap calculator, you will only see an entry for E36, which it is (technically) the E36/5 But wait, you say, the Z3 has its own line. Its the E36/7! It actually gets a worse penalty than the 318ti since it starts at 500 points instead of 485. This used to be equal until the e36 m52 took a point reduction.

  30. The Vette is awesome. Anything that is beating up on the BMW/Miata/CRX/SC300 teams will be penalized. Someone earlier made a snarky comment concerning the low number of a certain domestic vehicle in this series. Is there any wonder why? Build a hairdresser car or yuppiemobile and you have no worries about your points being raised or any rule being implemented that would negatively effect your fun time. Bring something outside the chosen 4 and you will have your parade rained upon if you kick some ass and take some names. A vocal number of the forum mafia scream

  31. Points increase for 1 car getting 14 trophies... Gbu got hit with points to. So did the Altima in 2020. Not just 1 car. One obvious car because they run at the front a lot. I believe about 6 cars got adjusted. This year. Whoa, we are penalizing teams for money, knowledge, and time now? No thanks!

  32. Didn't the crowd control mustang end up with like 14 trophies this year? Yeah, they might be the only team doing well with it, but aren't they the only team running it? I'm not saying the points increase was good or bad, but when your data set is 1, you kinda need to look at that data as possibly true. The fox body mustang is lighter and has essentially the same drivetrain. If the cobra got a vpi increase, I get why the fox body did too. At least 1 fox body lite up the lap charts. (Again, sample size is small). The miata people pick tracks that the car is

  33. If 3 of those did sweep the podium that would have to be at least 20% of them that have been built for the series! VPI is based on "stock" performance, so we are told. Some low point cars start with better HP, while some start with better handling and aftermarket support for road racing. Comes down to how teams choose to build their cars and the drivers that wheel it. I'm sure if you put a pro level driver in either car, they would out drive most Champcar drivers.

BCCR 4.7.2 • Materials from your vehicle are permitted to be repurposed into other items for zero points, provided teams retain documented evidence of the process I am suggesting that when the post race mob looks in your car, they will easily find elements in the chassis that clearly look different from a t bird, and which you are not capable of showing documentation showing how you reworked (or could have reworked) the t bird into that shape. 35. All fair questions. We have won 2 races in our 300 since the points change in 17, several bridesmaid finishes other than those wins. Other than the 100 points in 2017 no points have been assessed, the series management has determined the SC300 to be the "gold standard 500 point car" to compare all to, although I disagree. There has been no changes on brakes on our car since 2016, so the brakes being free had no benefit to our car. Yes, ABS came on this car and is one of the advantages of the platform. Not sure I understand your "have nots" comment, that is exactly who benefited.

  38. Since 17 how many races has your 300 won? How many points were you assessed? I will not argue for this series the 300 is the car to have. And your team is fantastic bunch of drivers. Since 17 there has been parts reduced to zero points, the biggest help is brakes. This does not help the have nots. Correct me if I am mistaken your 300 has anti lock braking system. Why is it when the 300, E30, Miata or 944 win it is the drivers, preparation and race strategy yet when others win it is the car? C.C. Team have outstanding drivers, preparation and strategy to get that car on the podium bei

Control arms, perches, spindles, hubs, ASB...there's 95 points. ***EDIT***there are LCAs there as well, so at least 115 points plus 20 points for coilovers (required for this setup) and other doodads that are clearly not stock such as non-OE ASB mounts, steering arms, etc.. So yeah, 145-150 points for that front suspension.
