  1. I think wraps should be legal. I think your tape should be legal. Tape gets used too many ways in emergency situations to consider a rule against its liberal use, in my opinion. There are bigger problems to solve.

  2. The ruleset needs to be both proactive and reactive. If the rule set was fixed you would get extremely perverse results as people take advantage of the open ruleset which is far from perfect. I do however think any rule change needs to be in 100% alignment with the vision and mission of ChampCar. Every decision should be a progression towards the vision.

  3. Please, enforce what we have now... Would rather the effort be put in to some required training, Zoom, Power Point, etc. on an annual basis (when you pay that membership fee) covering some of the basic on-track rules. It would help the very new of us, and the older, ahem, more seasoned of us that still make the same mistakes as most readily apparent from the season opener. Even this new rule that WRL has created has many on here guessing as to intent. Which means it is either to broad or to difficult a rule for people that constantly lose 10mm sockets to fully compreh

  4. I have very few issues with the rules as they are written. I have much bigger issues with the way the rules were enforced or interpreted for certain teams and/or in certain situations.

  5. Whatdya get done? Haha I got the car nut and bolted. Made different size adapter to raise or lower the steering wheel so @NigelStu can see over the steering wheel. Reinstalled the shifter, seat, and the driver feet standoff plate for heat. Also found some tools laying about inside the car and removed them. Reattached my wing end plates (always take them off in the shop because I smash into them constantly...). Put the wheels on, and load it on the trailer tonight for a track day at Roebling Road tomorrow!

  7. I'm pretty sure you can't take off a panel, replace it, then use the material to make another part, panel, etc. for free using repurposed materials. For example, I can't take off the hood, replace it with a fiberglass hood (or a duct tape hood), then cut up the hood to make a wing and splitter. I also believe this discussion is going off the rails and the whole complaint about using tape is nothing more than a witch hunt (as are a number of other proposal and complaints floated this week).

  8. My 13 yo son and I had our first race on Iracing with Champcar at VIR...no one every finishes where they want except the leader of the last lap and even though we were rolling roadblocks the racing experience was very similar to RL. My kid has never experienced that kind of pressure to perform and being exposed to superfast guys, off track excursions, and accident avoidance will only make him a better competitor in any sport he participates. Thanks for having us. Until next time, Kerry and Andy Steed

  10. Like the others have said, about 2 years ago when a lot of folks were excited to see it wasn't allowed, only to have it redacted from the rules and stated to be ok..... Wasn't part of this related to the inverted trunk lid not being called a spoiler? Think it was on an sc300?

  11. So does that mean cars can’t be wrapped either?

  12. Thoughts??? Only allow 2 fixed point changes per year. This includes during the season changes to the BCCR. Except for the following: - Safety updates - VPI adjustments - Simple clarifications - outright banning of parts (certain “special tires” that come on the market etc. - Swap weight adjustments - Emergency changes that require unanimous BOD approval. Reasoning: Im new to Champcar. The number of rule changes that have had points implications since i started building my car 1 year ago is ridiculous. I’ve read l

  14. Kerry, That brings clarity to some of the on track decisions Andy made during the race. Blue flags matter, please discuss with him and yes he did suffer some abuse in the online chat in iracing that could have been avoided if more drivers were made aware of his rookie status. Also, if you haven't already please join the discord group as a lot of great information is shared there including tips on shift points, braking and turn in point etc. The goal of the Iracing Series is to introduce drivers to Champcar and eventually getting them involved in the actual physical series.

  16. We got accused of running race fuel. I just ran with it. I said "yep, well when you increase the compression ratio as high as we have, you need to run it!". Iirc, that team tattled on us and we lol'd.

  17. That would be like getting a two-fer. You pay for a hood, then use the repurposed materials for free. And yeah, anybody who can't see the agenda behind these is blind.

  19. Fun race for the most part. Highest I’ve ever qualified. Kinda figured I couldn’t stay there all race but I gave it a shot. Had a headset blink that caught me out, and then someone spun into 1, I attempted to go around the outside right at the same moment they decided to back up. Story of my iracing career. See ya guys next week

  21. Putting a cell in a Miata that hasn't been hacked to pieces is not that difficult fyi....we have two...and it costs no where near $5k to do it...

  22. So why should a team that has an extra $1100 get two more gallons than one that doesn't? Believe it or not, this series used to allow teams to buy "bonus laps", like straight up you paid cash for laps added to your total, does that sound fair? They were also "extremely affordable" based on your standards FWIW

  23. So I can’t wrap my car if it has a hole in the body? But the multitudes of other cars that are wrapped are ok? I’m not talking about tape, I’m talking about vinyl car wrapping material.

  24. Jb weld in that instance would not be fastening anything together. Laminating is a form of fastening panels together. Not really any different than glue. Covering gaps I can see a small argument. But is that really a big deal? If joe blow is not great at fabrication, he should be allowed to cover some gaps with duct tape. That’s what this series is about IMO.

  25. And everyone has the ability to use duct tape. This is supposed to be affordable right?

  26. Nope, this is where you are wrong... Such a charge was made 2? Years ago and then retracted within a week. CEO firmly stated and doubled down that if you repurpose something originally on the car it’s zero points no matter what you make from it.

  27. Most newer sheet metal is like 0.035". You could drill 100 2.5" holes in the body and all you would save is 4lbs. This really is not an issue guys. If someone wants to spend the hours to do that to their car for 4lbs, why do we care?

  28. The issue would be with the green flag. If the next station doesn’t have the green flag out right away, what do you do. Imagine if you pass the yellow, pass the incident, then at the next station, there’s no flag. So you need to stay slow and single file right? Then 5 seconds later that station goes green and all those cars blow by you and you still havnt seem a green flag. I like the idea of waiting till the next station without a yellow.

  29. There are some things in this series that are exclusively trading dollars for time on track, most of those are controlled by points. The ones that aren't should be identified and limited. Hot compounds are an easy one to identify and regulate. Race fuel is another. I also see the +2 gallon fuel cell rule as an issue that incentivizes to spend and reduces parity.

  30. But in your streamliner example his duct tape is being used as a fastener. And in my case my hood and fenders are fastened together with tape, my fenders are further fastened to the front air dam and center nose piece. My doors are fastened to the body shell and cage with tape. My quarter panels are fastened together from one side to the other and the rear body panel is fastened to the rear floor body. A fastener (US English) or fastening (UK English)[1] is a hardware device that mechanically joins or affixes two or more objects together. In general, fasteners are used to create n

  33. Let us call this what it. We all know you are specifically targeting a specific team to make a rule to punish that team. The question I ask is why? Now, I could be wrong and maybe there are lots and lots of teams that cut holes all over the car and covered in tape, but I do not know of them. Maybe I am not looking well. I am a big weight wennie to save weight in whatever I can and did not see this as a viable option that had enough gains to justify it. I do not know of another team that does it like that. I also think we all have holes that we cover with vinyl or tape, such as door handles

  35. We were 497 in 2015, last year it would have been 318. Haven't looked this year. I redid my suspension every year for the three years we ran the Fiero in Chumpcar (2013 - 2015). Freeze the rules and no new cars on the VPI list for three years; fix the problems that already exist before making new ones.

  36. The fuel cell rule has always been the same, we installed a Jaz fuel cell with the SFI sticker in 2013. A big problem with the Jaz cells is that they jump from 16 gallons to 22 gallons which makes it hard to get your plus 2 gallons. Now I have the stock 16 gallons, but to go to the 18 that I am allowed I would have to go a different route.

  37. $849 for a cell with fittings in it. $150 for a pump and filter. $150 more for lines and fittings. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Fuel-Safe-ED117-17-Gallon-Dirt-Modified-Fuel-Cell,83879.html Im sorry, but that is extremely affordable for a rated fuel cell and way safer than a stock tank. The 4K cost you originally said was what set off alarms. If you can’t agree that what I’ve posted above is affordable, it’s pretty clear there’s something else that your not sharing.

  38. Specifically how is duct tape being used outside of the rules? The covering of body holes was mentioned. That is a minuscule advantage for an extreme amount of work. Are there other things that it’s being used for that you’d care to share? I just don’t see how having a rule about regulating the use of duct tape has any benefit. Please re-read that last sentence and let it sink in for a minute. It’s just duct tape.

  39. I really don't want a convertible but that would mean essentially all aero on the car would be free. (It has a big roof that happens to be pretty heavy as well...) To be blunt, that is a stupid ruling. Perhaps the new CEO has other ideas.

  40. To my knowledge I am the only competitive Miata which now has a fuel cell. I have the most to gain from the 2+ gallon fuel cell rule (2.55 seconds a lap at Road America on the 8hr day). I've long avoided it because the miata fuel system is awesome and its a massive effort to get a cell in the Miata. If my petition passes, I will have lost most all of the advantage I just paid $4K $5K for. To my knowledge GBU is focused on other professional series which is why they've dropped out of the recent races, none the less, I gain more than they do from the 2+ gallon rule. I do want

  41. I don’t disagree with most of that. But the 2 gallons helps the smaller cars more than the bigger ones. 2 gallons on a 13 gal car is 15% more fuel. On a 20 Gal car it’s only 10%. The 13 gal car generally is more fuel efficient as well. So it actually helps even the field more. Disallowing the 2 gal will give more of an advantage to the big tank cars. I don’t think that’s what you want is it?

  42. That's not the point. The point is duct tape is currently being used outside of the way the rule is written. I submitted a petition to correct this, and I just submitted a tech desk ticket as well. I've already been told in a tech desk ticket that other fasteners cannot be used for anything other than fastening something to something else. It would follow that duct tape will be treated the same way, especially when the literal text of the rule states that.

  43. Have you seen some of the fuel cell installations? Moving from an OE fuel system to something where entry-level-racer needs to build their own lines and own fittings with their own routing likely negates any safety from a bladder. Ecotec Cobalt = 300pts Ecotec Miata = 401pts *Edited

  44. ATL Cell = $1,316.53 Summit - External Pump, Fittings, Hydramat, Filler = $951.60 Radium Fill Plate/Surge Fittings = $1,415.21 Radium Fuel Filter Fittings = $241.10 Deatschwerks Pumps = $134.96 Moroso Switch Panel = $101.27 = $4160.67 Plus $500 for cage and cell frame welding, then material was maybe $200 on top of that. So closer to $5K. Could you do it for less? Sure, but you need to move everything to AN fittings and expensive hose and add multiple pumps to actually use the extra fuel. If you get rid of the free 2 gallons it slows everyone down. It reduces power
