  1. We’ve raced at a couple races with the purple 35 and it’s always astounding how bad the rules are being followed. I’ve had times where the car in front pulls 60-70 on the straights during this, losing 2 minutes to teams in front when we were in the top 5, and being completely alone going 35 and by the end of 3 laps you have a train of 20 cars behind. If there is no enforcement of the rule, the rule is useless. It only takes 1 car to go faster than 35 for the whole group to abuse the rule and since nobody gets black flags, it happens over and over. Super simple for the race director to say, purple 35 lap time must be at least XXX or you will get a black flag.

  2. Got the wheel bearings checked. Got the brakes and clutch bled. Fuel lines checked and secured. Just nut and bolt and cut down splitter remaining. Then it's on the trailer and packed for this weekend. Should be awesome!

  3. 1100 lbs on the front of a Fiero with 225 tires. Changing from the stock manual rack to the WS6 power steering rack is probably the most significant change in how the car drives. Great feedback with fingertip effort. Like dancing with a ballerina; she knows the moves and makes you look better than you are. 1350 lbs on the front of a Civic with 245 tires. Stock manual rack. Decent feedback but the effort is getting high. Like dancing with a female wrestler; can be done but you'll know it the next day.

  4. Light car, tires not ridiculous, manual is the way to go IMO. Most teams just use a power rack and plug the lines or something like that. Great feel and in our sub 2500 lbs car it’s not tiring.

  5. Once again, I am a huge fan of the system. One opportunity for improvement would be some sort of hood on the housing itself, or something to help with direct sunlight. First stint at VIR with direct low sunlight washed out the lighting in a few areas. Just a little feedback.

  6. VQ30DE would work in a 280Z, at 190 HP that puts it at 190 VPI. Real world they are generally more $$ than a J30 but since it bolts up to RWD 5speeds probably the same $$ in total and less labor. Should still come under the $1500 total max. And you could run for the new Nissan awards program because it requires Nissan car and Nissan engine/drive train.

  7. It's not that hard to calculate a delta lap time at 35 mph, add some wiggle room say 10% and black flag any team with a lap time under that. Timing and scoring could have someone assigned to monitor this during a Purple 35. I know it's not fool proof but it might help catch some offenders. Also, at one our VIR races a radar gun was deployed for enforcement. PS: Smokey and Mark Donahue are my heroes, so I understand we are all looking for that "unfair advantage". That's why we have officials to keep us in check.
