  1. For a person/team who has entered two cars for WGI, IF MCM there I am going to have a dedicated spotter on them the entire race and when we pass them, or get passed by them, we are going to be way wide and give them space. We will have eyes on them the entire time. From my understanding it was multiple items that caused the ban. Bad driving, aggressive driving and retaliation with driving, which for me is the worst part. We have enough issues and do not need to have NASCAR type of take outs happen. I have 1000's of hours into my cars and do not need someone to get mad and take me out and either hurt me, hurt my drivers/friends or hurt my car. I have also heard that he rents the cars out and charges big money and they are not all that well prepared anyway. He races to make money as I understand, and that is all fine and good, but to me, if you are racing to make money and have that type of attitude he should go circle track, in which they encourage NHL type of car contact, getting out of the car, hitting each other with helmets. On a side note, everyone makes mistakes, I have hit someone on track before and it was my fault, I did find them afterwords, apologized and all was good and we joked about it. The issues is there is not apology or remorse. There was not admitting of wrong doing. There was no acknowledgment of terrible behavior. To me, this shows that the behavior he might be portraying now is just a show and blowing smoke up Champcars ass. I have talked to Dana a lot, I like Dana, he is a really smart guy and I have faith in his decisions so if he is letting them back I have to assume there is more to it then what we see. If I saw him make some type of public announcement saying, after reflecting on the incidents, my behavior, my teams attitude, ect, I have realized my faults and will not happen again. I might be able to believe it more, but I have not seen anything. Maybe some type of penance. Work X amount of races as a volunteer. Talk the members he screwed over by wrecking their cars and weekends. Did he make amends with those people and teams? I am just a person on the outside looking in, but I just do not personally see any reason to allow them back in as they have done nothing to rectify the faults of the past. Just my 2 cents

  2. Terrific! I love surprises. Now do I spend a couple hundred dollars to install a second muffler or waste half of my $350 test day chasing sound again? What's a few hundred dollars when we are dropping thousands on tires that melt like butter.

  3. Went through all 85ish petitions submitted and sent in my thoughts. I'm so glad our members want rules stability because I'd hate to see how many petitions would be submitted if we didn't!

  4. This is what I love about ChampCar. We don't tell you how to build a car. We tell you what you can't do. sorta. I love the twilight zone grey area, where we can Play!

  5. Sounds like you understand your dilemma… they changed which housings have the water seal O-rings from the GSL-SE to the later 13B engines, and the 12A center housings don’t have injector bosses. If you want to keep what you have your only choice is to find a GSL-SE center housing, and like you say that is likely to be difficult. How desperate are you? I am going to be liquidating all my rotary stuff as I swap to a different engine, and I have one, but it is in the engine in the car with a stuck apex seal. I would have to pull the engine, disassemble it and check the housings over. They are likely to be fine, and I could make you a deal on all 3 irons already ported, with the center inlet enlarged to fit an S5 intake. I could even include a stock S5 intake, and my msq file that made 210 at the wheels Since you have the engine apart here is a big tip if you are still using the red Mazda water seals. Ditch them and get some of the Atkins brown square cut Viton seals, everyone knows that you will have problems if you overheat a rotary, but with these I have had water temps over 260 several times when we had problems and the drivers kept going, I just filled it back up with water and never had a hint of a leak.

  6. Long time lurker, first time poster... (mostly cause we've been racing in a Canadian series that isn't Champcar...) We've been racing a second gen S-series truck for the last 2 years. It can definitely be built to run pretty quick and turn some heads. Regarding the cage, I put the main hoop vertical but as tight to back of the cab as possible. So tight that we removed the extra sheet metal in the cab and deleted the third brake light. I'm 6-2" and just fit with addition of a tilt steering column. Its funny enough that it was mentioned above but we also run a GM 3500 instead of the "normal" 4.3L. I pretty much guarantee a turbo'd 4.3 or 60deg V6 would not make it on fuel. If you're interested we recently did an overview video that runs thru our truck. If you have questions feel free to reach out. We are far from full potential (or points limit) for this platform but not sure its worth the effort to get it there (fair warning )

  8. Great job Randy Pobst. "If your driving a miata or bmw you cheating". Good to see even a pro struggles with reliability. He understands our racing. Didnt come in with supercars, tires galore, hauler and racing team. Ran with friends in a Volvo on a trailer. Just a regular guy like us. Very open. I like his style and class. Good advertising for us to. Champcar rules.

  10. Are you saying that all the other teams running the Spec Miata mufflers are passing the sound test because they exit out the rear of the car? If so, then why not just install yours the same way and be done with it?

  11. Heaven forbid you comply with the intent of the rule rather than the enforcement by actually quieting your car down instead of just pointing the noise to one side or the other. Three cheers! Great answer.

  12. Email response from Dana on questions I had: How will the weekend be scored to determine final champion? I assume the two finishes will be added together, lowest sum wins. What are the first and second tie breakers? Once again I assume season points is first tie breaker, one of the race finishes sets the other. Assumptions on my part, so please confirm. Sum of both races based on lowest point count. Tie will be determined at the track. Will the pace car pull in race leader or championship leader? There’s only one race. The leader of the race is the leader, that’s who we pick up. I think it was previously communicated there is no MOV penalty Sunday for Saturday winner. Please confirm. Nope. Should championship contenders fill out new digital tech sheet or bring copy of paper tech form? Last year or this years form for contenders? Covered in the email I sent. What side of track will sound be measured? Wherever we feel like measuring it. Has it been determined how the starting order will be done for championship contenders? I think your email said number of races in 2020 for the first day, has it been decided for the 2nd day? Haven’t decided on Sunday yet. I plan to ask the teams and get their input on Friday.

  13. They have been applied to sprint races in the past, so it is a good question. I would have never guessed that MOV would have been applied to 15 minute sprint races, and it cost me a few wins.......sooooo never assume anything.

  14. Still outstanding and some more: 1. How are races scored for championship contenders and under what rules? Tie breakers? Are non-championship contenders included in the "points" for the winner-take-all championship? 2. How are races scored for non-championship contenders and under what rules? 3. Can a championship contender choose to compete in the non-championship "category". 4. How are national championship class points calculated (Mazda Contingency) 5. Are there MOV penalties for championship and non-championship winners? 6. What side of the track will sound be taken? 7. Will the pace car pull the championship contender leader, or race leader? 8. Will the championship teams use the new digital tech sheets, or should we still print paper? 9. If I got a one race waiver for 2021 tech but have an annual 2020 tech, can I run the race without getting tech'ed for 2021?

  15. My understanding is everything is able to be mixed and matched. video gives some info. I would make call to someone like Mazdatrix who has been building rotary engines forever. Dave Lemon is one the original rotary wizards. He knows it all and a quick conversation could answer all your questions. https://www.mazdatrix.com

  16. ah. yes. That was when YouTube suddenly stopped us from using their servers like we were in the past. I had to break out my own channels that had enough subs to use this as either a replay for the show, or for the show itself. I forget. oh. after reviewing the video. we used that for review within the company. see how it is unlisted.

  17. Better bet would be to just make that 4.3 last and drive the piss out of it. The 4.3 is basically a small block in parts. Make sure the oil gets to where it needs to be and don't try to make a poop ton of horsepuppies. Keep the revs moderately low (5400 rpm?) On a stock bottom end. Get the weight out of it and #sendit. I don't remember these having a large enough fuel tank to support a 4.3 with turbskies. In fact, I wonder if it would be faster if you swapped in a 3500, 3800, or 3900 with less weight, better fuel economy, and similar horsepower. Leave that for after the 4.3 dies a glorious death!

  20. • Turbochargers and superchargers, non-OE: 100 pts o Parts included with non-OE turbocharger/ supercharger installations are: exhaust/ intake manifold, pressure tubing, cooling lines, oil lines, and boost control systems. • Turbocharger and supercharger intercoolers, non-OE: 25 pts BCCR pretty clearly says intake is included. Is there some other interpretation out there?

  21. Daytona this coming weekend in the Danger Racing Lexus, our car at Road America, with Huggy at Watkins Glen, then a big break from racing it looks like, finish the year in December back to back races at Barber in our Lexus and with Scotty K in his Maxima at Sebring. Oh, almost forgot I may do the 24 with Huggy if he does it. Let's pit close together at Sebring so we can visit?

  22. First startof the engine after complete rewire job. Started on first push of the new button. Few things to wrap up and tie down. Looking great so far. Need a couple adapters for dash sensors and then I can start full nut and bolt check of the car.

  23. @Bill Strong @Jer @Chris Huggins @E. Tyler Pedersen @Doc @TAlexander Can you provide info about the rules? 1. How are races scored for championship contenders and under what rules? Tie breakers? We are 12 days away from the test day, 13 days away from the first race. I've made substantial time and money investments in the car to prepare based on assumptions of the rules, but I think we really need to get to know the actual rules. It does impact strategy and risk/risk aversion decisions for teams.

  24. Well I got the HD camera wired in, and the Two Idiots and a Garage sticker on it, only the picture was to big to fit on the sides so one is on the roof, and the other is on the trailer! And just did our updated tech sheet online.

  25. 5.6!?! I wish! Where do you get 30pts? Alloy v6 3.0 maxima engine coupled to stock BMW slushbox, cut firewall, stuff/fit everything back till it hits the dash bar, should be 0 points as we are doing the engine swap and have to make mounts anyway. Driveshaft cutting/removal of material 0 pts, material to scoot back center of firewall should be 0pts as it will come from elsewhere on the car. Move K member forward? We are still a builders series... Knock yourself out, I would love to drive it someday.

  29. Hit the dyno to break in new engine build...didn't break, and few extra ponies showed up to the party with a more conservative tune. Just a few items left to do this weekend, test on Monday and park her in the trailer for our debut at Daytona. This is a true Dangers OUT effort (Danger Racing Group and Pinkies Out) as @Chris Huggins has been a huge help in helping to resurrect the Danger Racing Group Lexus after engine failure at Sebring. Even @Burningham sent a few of his hard to find spares to help in prepping for our Daytona event! I feel truly grateful and fortunate for all the amazing friendships this group has enriched me with. 31. Call me a prick but I just sent a note to the Board outlining that I haven't seen anything indicating a permanent change in behavior that would lead me to want to see them back in the series again. It's still a team of renters with more money than brains, and run by a guy who was culprit number one. I'm just one Board member but I'm still saying no to MCM. Our series is better off without him and the attitude that has led to at least a half dozen other cars being damaged, some beyond repair. We are lucky someone wasn't seriously injured (so far). I never have a problem being outspoken and I probably am again in this case just like the dumb fender flare rule and other times when I've stood alone. If Dana lets them back in, I hope he knows what he is doing and MCM has given some compelling arguments for real change. I don't care about his apprenticeship program, money for documentaries or anything else if they go out and wad up other team's cars.

  32. This will require teams to spend more money on additional fire gear for crew. It will also be a huge issue for team mechanics working on a car. So now, that person has to be in full gear when laying under the car, trying to stick their head (in a helmet) into a wheel well, under the hood or anywhere else. And they have to wear gloves. Further, if TEAMS have to be in full fire gear on pit lane, then series officials working near those cars on pit lane should be in full fire gear and that includes the media guy walking up and down pit lane. Finally, we all know a full face helmet not only decreases vision but muffles sound. This is going to create a situation where crew over the wall can't see as well, can't hear as well and there will be issues. And this doesn't even begin to address the issue of face shields fogging up (which they will) while crew are exerting themselves during a stop. This is another of many recent attempts to solve a fictitious safety issue that doesn't exist just in the name of creating more rules.

  35. Out of curiosity, any idea what the CFM flow created by fans would be required to make measurable downforce? Say a guy was to lay his radiator flat, parallel with the ground, integrated into the splitter, and run a 8000 cfm rad fan on it. Noticeable gain or not likely? Off to see if the cfm rating of Jim Hall's fan is stated anywhere...

  36. Spacers is dependent on too many factors. Offset and strut tube straightness to name two. 225 on Tire Rack C1 8” wheel is unlikely to need one if you haven’t done any crazy things with alignment. 10” wheels from JB will need spacers. Use an offset calculator to give you an idea

  37. I think the most common answer you'll get here is 225/45R15 or 245/40R15 Hankook RS4. There may be a few teams running a 205 section width Bridgestone RE71R, but I think they're the minority.
