  1. So funny (but ironic), especially where cause of the wreck is clear.
  2. Hi All, I'm back to the drawing board after my Miata was demolished in another series by a Mustang doing what Mustang's do best. Anyone know what happened to the 2019 VPI PDF? The original link no longer works (404 Not Found): https://champcar.org/mainweb/pdf/VPITable2019v1.pdf Thinking of running a car that was >500 points in 2018. -Kevin EDIT: Never mind, found it: https://champcar.org/mainweb/downloads/VPI_Table_1901.pdf I guess my choice of car is still screwed.
  3. Hi All, I'm looking for a seat with a competitive team to race for in California (LS, Sonoma, Thunderhill, etc.). Here's an example video of my driving at Laguna Seca in January '18 during a Lucky Dog race, lapping the entire field in a top 25% car: https://youtu.be/S7tp_Zp7ac4 The vehicle in the video was a near-stock, non-sport model '03 Mercedes C-Class w/manual 6 speed. In that car, the only mods from stock at the time was a 1" spring chop, Home Depot front brake ducting, Porterfield brake pads, and 200TW tires (still has Cats & A/C!). The car had an open diff and both traction/stability control were disabled. We ended the race weekend with an overall podium, finishing in front of a bunch of much faster cars. Private message me and I'll forward previous race official lap time breakdowns/analysis and a list of team member personal references. I'm good with a wrench, great with a laptop, and very fast/consistent behind the wheel. I am confident I can help your team get to the front of the pack!
  4. Does anyone have one in good shape, narrow ass version preferred.
  5. Can't beat the price, $17.99 for 3ft section of low profile SFI-rated padding Free shipping over $100 http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performance-Products/555/70050/10002/-1
  6. I'm not really that concerned if Lemons likes the cage or not as I'm not that interested in running in their "50% full course yellow flag parade" series. The question was really whether other low cost series like ChampCar were also planning a move in in the direction of requiring sturdier cage tube construction, which would make my impending purchase (even more) financially dubious. Suze Orman would definitely not approve
  7. Yes, DOM tubing recommended over ERW, but tube dimensions are fixed: https://24hoursoflemons.com/prices-rules/ 3.E.1.a Rollbar Tubing and Spreader-Plate Specs. Minimum tubing size for cars weighing under 3000 pounds as raced is 1.50″ x .120″ or 1.75″ x .095″. Cars weighing over 3000 pounds as raced must use a minimum tubing size of 1.75″ x.120″. Properly bent, racecar-grade and -quality tubing is mandatory: no stretched or crushed bends allowed. DOM mild steel is very strongly recommended over ERW (seamed) tubing. All spreader plates must be mild steel, at least 24 square inches, and at least .125” thick.
  8. I noticed that Lemons moved to a 1.5" x 0.120" minimum roll cage tube dimension for light cars at some point. What are the chances ChampCar will move in that direction soon? I'm extremely curious as I'm looking at a Miata with a 1.5" x 0.095" Spec Miata-style cage currently installed by a race shop in the Pacific Northwest. I'm trying to avoid throwing money down a hole and having to replace the cage in a year or two. Any thoughts? I have to make a purchase commitment by tomorrow afternoon or lose the car to the next buyer in line.
  9. Yeah, you need to use good 90 degree micro USB cables and make sure everything tight or is taped down. BTW, I'm contemplating a new setup with the Pi device and will get it hooked up with a GoPro. Stay tuned and give it a shot when I get around to putting the idea down in writing (after validating that it works). I also need to buy a newer GoPro first With this new and improved setup, the raspberry pi could be shoved somewhere safe down in the car, and connect to the GoPro wirelessly.
  10. I might be interested, PM me with the financials and team size.
  11. I'm interested in picking up a one or two day ride for either upcoming Laguna Seca or Sonoma Raceway event in a competitive B, C, or D class RWD car (A fast engine-swapped FWD Honda also could be interesting). I've got a decent bit of experience and most recently helped our team secure a sixth overall (3rd in class) finish at Laguna Seca back in July. I've pretty consistently been the fastest driver on the team with quick, clean laps. I'm happy to drive in the dry or in the rain, and I'll help your team push towards the front while respecting the equipment. Anyone out there with a fast BMW e30 or e36 who wants to make a serious go at a top finishing spot? Happy to send over in car video w/telemetry, prior event stats, as well as team personal references about my abilities, team spirit, and what I bring to the team. I'm happy to bring my tools, video equipment, telemetry (lap data recorder setup/high performance GPS/OBDII equipment, live streaming video setup, food, or whatever else is needed.
  12. After doing some more investigation, the reason for the low CPU utilization is due to the camera doing the H264 encoding in the hardware. The ffmpeg command is just encoding the audio input from the microphone to AAC format and muxing it together with the pre-encoded video before streaming it to the RaceCast.me service.
  13. To me, it sounded like mic's sound pressure range was exceeded, with all of the engine, braking, and wind buffeting through the windowless car. I tried to add a cloth muffle the next day, but there was no discernible improvement. Who knew that when you buy the cheapest Chinese USB microphone on Amazon that the sound quality wouldn't be the greatest Check out the video replays on the linked page to see what I mean.
