  2. Hello all, I wanted to start a thread about an incident that happened today. I had some contact with this team in the infield, then I'm hit by the same BMW something like 5 or 10 laps later. We're six and a half hours into Daytona, and two of that was spent removing our mangled splitter and replacing a bent control arm. The miata fortunately managed to avoid hitting the wall or rolling and got back on track much quicker than we did. I know exactly where I stand on this issue, and I've also posted it the Daytona race events thread, but I figured it could use its own thread for discussion. Here are the videos... Sorry for the potato quality but I'm still at the track. I'll get real versions of this later, and as much lead-up as you feel necessary. First section of video is contact with MCM in the infield heading towards the kink: Second section of video is where I'm hit by the same BMW something like 5 or 8 laps later. ... Thoughts?
  3. We're booking seats for Daytona! We are currently set to bring two cars, our Miata and our Camaro. We are a full service, "arrive and drive" team, you just show up and strap in! Message or call for more information! info@dpracecars.com 727-563-4932
  4. I'm in search for a drive for the Daytona-April Race. I've already done 5 races in this series with two different teams (Team Sparrow Speed and Lighting Motorsports). I also have previous experience before I started champ car and I am currently active with HPDE events with my WRX. The goal for this race is to be smooth, caring, and consistent in order to have a strong finish in my session. I understand that this is a team effort, so I'll be considerate while driving the car so that the next driver will have a turn to race. Below is a quick resume with all the experience that I have so far. Message if you have any availability. Thank you for reading and hopefully I'll be racing with you guys. Take care. 6. Good Day Champ-o-sphere, Our team will have an open seat for the 2019 race at Daytona and at least one seat available for the race at Charlotte. We are a 3-man Texas team that has raced in Chumpcar for several years including TMS and "The 37" at ECR 2014, COTA 2016 and Daytona 2016 and 2017. Our current car is a 1988 Ford Thunderbird(302/5 speed) and we run full two hour stints. PM for more info and pricing. Thanks and we look forward to racing with you! Cheers!
  7. Here's the deal, Team Infiniti and the Shark car are sitting out a couple of races in prep of the Championship and Indy, that leaves me, primary car owner /master tech mostly free to hang out with other BMW teams while researching our new build @ Road Atlanta & Daytona. Bothering the other e30 teams will only take so long before security steps in.... Give me something to do. I know breaking down or crashing is not on most teams agenda, but stuff happens, please keep this thread in mind if someone you know is struggling. If not volunteering or being detained by security, a car that gets fixed at the track, even if out of the chase, is best tested before packing up and hoping it fixed itself before the next event. I will gladly help spin wrenches, replace suspension, or poke at a drivebility issue, a few laps would make my weekend! e30 teams especially invited to txt me even if there is no need to spin renches Ed 5six1-2five2-3933
  8. My honda civic broke a pressure plate the wed before we left for Daytona so i was praying the miata made it through the race with no issues because..... 12. I live on the west coast, but have COTA, Watkins Glenn and Daytona on my bucket list of tracks to race at. I can't afford the time to pull my car 60 hours across the country, but do go to Laguna Seca every year. So, I'm curious if anyone who has a solid top 30% car that wants to race Laguna Seca but is in a similar position of not being able to tow that far would be interested in a seat swap for a race later this year at Laguna Seca in October. My car is a 1995 Mustang that in this year's rules is 490 points (265 RWHP). In 2016 I ran endurance races at 4 different tracks each with 40+ cars and finished 2nd & 3rd at Laguna, 4th and 7th at The Ridge, 10th and 14th at ORP (60 cars) and 4th in the Championship at Thunderhill. (Took the checker flag both days in all four weekends.) I am Obsessive about my preparation and have already registered for the race and reserved a garage so the only reason my car won't be at Laguna Seca is if there is a catastrophic problem in my earlier races that year. If you'd like to run my car first and swap for a 2018 race that is fine as well. I'm sure we could work out some kind of a deposit. We can talk specifics over PM if you're interested, but if your car has never finished in the top 30% of the field, it probably wouldn't be a fair trade.
  13. I will post hotels as I add them. Meanwhile, hope this saves you some planning time/effort! 15. Hey everyone! After purchasing another car from here on the site, we now have some open seats for the race next weekend. The 300ZX is currently full, but I do have some drivers who are willing to run in the new (to us) SC300 if somebody really wants to drive the 300ZX. Our basics are to take care of the car, driver is responsible for damages, driver must wear an SFI neck brace, we have Cool Shirt systems for either car, all cars have containment seats with head halo and FIA rated seat belts, both are on big Hankook RS3s and have excellent brakes to drive them deep into the braking zone, we bring a pit crew to the events so we make all of the regular pit stops well within the 5 minute window, we bring well prepped cars that consistently run up near the front. The 300ZX is an EC car, and the SC300 will take a couple of laps for having aftermarket springs in the front (this will be changed after this race to be a zero lap car). We will be taking both of these to more events for the rest of this year and into next so if you want to come be a part of a proven team, send me a message!!

  19. First off, thank you, thank you, thank you to every single person who had a yellow shirt on or those who were at a corner worker station to make this event one of the best ones that we have been a part of! Mike, Andrea, Phil and Dan have their positions so well figured out that everything flows so smoothly and efficiently. Having raced with other series for work (after making a name for ourselves with Chumpcar), I can honestly say that the events are ran on a professional and fair level that rivals (and often betters) many well known "professional" racing series. The next round of thanks goes out to the people that come to the track with us to help support us. Thomas Jaeger (my main guy at my shop and fill in crew chief when I am driving or away at a different race), Eric Conkling (one of the best drift drivers in Florida ), the Tenney Family, the Saunders Family and especially my wife for letting me continue to do these events out of town while she watches our three kids (4, 2 and 5 weeks) and keeps the house in order. We all work really well together as a team and had a couple pit stops where we fueled the cars, changed a hurt wheel/tire, rolled a fender, added oil, swapped cool shirt boxes, cameras and drivers and still made the 5 minute cut off at the end of pit road. For the first race ever, our Z was driven by only renters and they did an awesome job! David Spitzer, Mark Zaremskas, Sean Norman and Metod Topolnik all took great care of the car and turned consistent laps to keep the car up near the front. As a car owner, there is always a bit of nervousness that goes with these races, but having this crew pilot the car helps to ease that! Now all I have to worry about is something silly breaking on the car, them getting caught up in a racing incident or having to deal with rain all day (and that combination is why I was up walking around the infield at 4:30 am on raceday, lol). I love racing in the rain as a driver, but hate it as a car owner. For those that did not know, the Z took major damage at Sebring when the RF brake caliper bracket failed late in the race. Took out the caliper, wheel, tire, radiator, oil cooler, core support, brake line, tension strut mounts, bent the frame rail, damaged the rack, bent the fender and brackets up. Luckily, Ethan Lowe was in the car and did a great job keeping it out of the wall in Turn 1 when the failure happened. This was the first race back for the car with only a shakedown test at The FIRM and it looks like she is just as good as she has always been. Our Lexus SC300 finally got the Daytona win that has eluded our team since the first event (that we led most of with our Z). The drivers this time were the car owner David Tenney, Lee Saunders (2015 Trans Am TA3 Champion) and myself. David started the race and did awesome in the rain keeping us in P1 before he pitted. The car has a welded rear diff (yes we claim the material for the welding on our AIV/TCV er whatever it is called these days) so it is a bit drift happy in the wet, which actually makes it a blast to drive. Lee was in the car next and started putting in some faster laps as the rain died off. As things dried out, the faster big power cars started making up ground and we had alot tighter racing all around. I got into the car for the third stint, having never drove the car in a race and not having been in a road race car since Daytona last year. I managed to just squeak the FTD time for the car over David and Lee. My best was the 2:17.7, and Lee and David both ran 2:18s. I will still argue up and down that consistent clean driving is what wins races and I think these results again speak for themselves. We all manage traffic very well and other than David getting hit on the RF by a car that came from near the marbles outside of T1 to try and clip the tires by the apex, we ran the entire race without contact. If David had not been paying attention and way over-slowed to try and avoid contact, the damage likely would have been race ending for us. After the contact, the steering would bind up whenever the front end was loaded and it made the car pretty tough to drive fast. Basically you had to get the initial set of the steering just right because that is where it was stuck until you had to unwind from the corner with a ton of extra effort. I know I missed it a few times and had a couple of big moments in close proximity to other cars and I am very thankful that we were able to avoid each other!! We hustled the car for the rest of the day trying to keep up a fast pace and not take ourselves or anybody else out in the process. The 2JZ engine was smooth as a sewing machine all day and for those who are interested, we were dynoed on Friday and the car made 197 rwhp. Congrats to all of the other teams who finished on the podium!! It took everything we had to pull it off so we know how hard the rest of you worked to get there. Since both cars are in good shape and the Daytona event being moved to earlier in the year, we are going to add at least one more event to the schedule for the middle of the year. NCM and Charlotte are on the radar right now. Any other Florida teams have an interest in those and will pay some of the fuel bill for us to deliver their car to the track for them in the semi?

  21. Any Chumps heading out to the track next weekend (01/25/2014 and 01/26/2014) for the Rolex 24? Members of Lead Sled will be around at different times throught the weekend, let us know where your at. We're know to carry beer, just not the kinds most people enjoy.
  22. Last night our local CBS station did a news story on ChumpCar and the Cougar's trip to Daytona. http://local21news.com/news/features/top-stories/stories/chumpcar-champs-locals-drive-junker-daytona-win-1585.shtml
  23. I hope someone here snapped a picture as I was coming out of Turn 4 and the hood pins failed. Lucky for me I was past the entrance to Pit Row and not in a lot of traffic so I knew I had a good shot of slowing the car down and bringing her across the grass to Pit Row. I bunch of my fellow Chumps came out to help and pushed the hood back down so I could limp to the garage. I have the Go Pro video from inside and would also like to see a picture from outside the car if there is one. Thanks to all Chumps for a great event on Sunday!
  24. Thanks to ChumpCar (John, Mike, Cathy) for your hospitality and inviting us out to cover the Daytona Race for your drivers. Thanks to everyone that stopped by and took advantage of our viewing stations, we had a lot of traffic throughout the day and evening and hope everyone was pleased with their CD or Prints. For those who asked if the photos would also be online, I am pleased to announce they are all uploaded and ready for your viewing. As always, we have all the photos searchable by Car #, click the link below, add your Car # in the field to view photos by your Car # only! Prints and/or digital downloads are available for purchase. We hope to see everyone again at Sebring in September. We had a couple of requests to come out to Road Atlanta and Atlanta Motor Speedway, we will confirm with the event organizers to ensure there isn't a Photog already booked for the event, if not, we will see you there too! Daytona 2012 ChumpCar Photos: http://www.awolphoto...umpcar-daytona/ Thanks everyone! -Eric
  25. I'm Curious. What track configuration did Chumpcar run, how was it different from the Rolex 24hr? What sort of topspeeds did cars hit? (in the dry) What types of cars were in the top ten? I was impressed by the dry laptimes.
