Motorsports Park Hastings--May 4th

Recommended Posts

Car #888 of Purple Headed Chumps can't seem to catch a break.  Yesterday they were in the paddock for most of the race changing out an engine.  Later that day they began to have brake issues.  Now already they lost an exhaust somewhere in the alfalfa.

Car #3 of Lemonata held a consistently strong 6th place for most of the day yesterday.  I reported yesterday how they were a young team and their newbie driver has never done endurance wheel to wheel racing.  However he ran the fastest team lap time yesterday.  However the car started to experience mechanical problems.....they began to have clutch  issues as they were overcompensating for a warped brake rotor.

Today Adam, the newbie, took the first shift and already has taken the team from 12th to 6th place.  As they don't have the fastest car out here their strategy is to minimize pit stops and just be consistent.  They are having a blast and hope that ChumpCar comes back to Hastings and has more races in this part of the country

So I asked Team Bare Metal Racing #128 how they are doing today....they answered "We are still on the track".  That is a great thing compared to yesterday when 1.5 hrs into the race they came into the pits with what they thought was a clutch issue.  Drove into Lincoln to get a new clutch only to find out that it was actually an axle that was broken.  Another road trip now into Omaha which is over 2 hrs. away.  Finally after getting everything fixed they got back out on the track at 4:00 pm and had a good 4 hrs of racing.

Car #186 of Perpetual Adolescents Racing in their 1989 Ford Mustang just needs a break this weekend. They just had to get flat towed in and once again is having brake issues. This is their 4 set for the weekend.

It seems they might need an adjustment of brake pad compound or driver technique or both. That's a lesson we learned during our first race as well.

Car #98 of Alan Parson's Project is having a much better day out on the track.  Yesterday their wheel bearing and destroyed their hub.  They also drove to Omaha (over 2 hrs away) to a salvage yard to get a "new" hub.  They got it fixed and got back out onto the track by 4:15.

Car #4 of Team Nasty is one of the local teams that races here at Motorsports Park Hastings when they have small endurance races.  They heard from George (track manager) that ChumpCar was coming and they were in.  Now they are hooked.  They can't wait for Chump to come back next year
