Buttonwillow Raceway Park is a motorsports park in Kern CountyCalifornia, 10 miles (16 km) north ofthe town of Buttonwillow and 28 miles (45 km) northwest of Bakersfield. Owned and operated by the California Sports Car Club, a region of SCCA, Buttonwillow is the "flagship" track of Cal Club, and is also the location of the Club's administrative offices.  It is 3.1 miles long track with 12 turns.  The biggest challenge for most is going to be the heat.  Even spectators just walking around all day, if not drinking enough water, will start to get signs of heat stroke.  Imagine being in a race suit driving for 2 hours in the hottest part of the day.  This is going to be the first challenge.  The second challenge will be driving in the night....if some are not used to it that will be a challenge along with fatigue.

Car # 143 of 5B Racing didn't have a good start to the day.  Seems that they may have done to much light testing last night.  So when they were about to go on course from pit road their car died. Just needed a jump.  Then the driver had to go back to pit area cause he didn't have his neck brace on.  Luckily this is a 24 hour race and they have a lot of time to make it up.

We have car #142 of Silversleeves Racing in their 1972 Austin Mini stopped on track.  This team is out of Canada and is raising awareness to ALS and raise funds for a charity called "Cycle of Hope".  We have a donation jar located at Race Central for all donations.  Hope the car gets fixed and back out on track

Car # 609 of Hot Pretzel Club did not have a good start to their morning.  Their fuel pump seized up.  So as everyone was starting the race they were trying to get that fixed.  In their words....they were leveling the playing field and give everyone a jump start.  However they are back in their pits having clutch issues.

Car # 191 of Team Ghetto Fabulous in their 1993 Honda Civic had a crack in their rim right through the middle.  A $7 rim for a $7 run.  Got that switched out and back on track.  They drove up from LA...part of the drive through LA they actually drove their car through the city.

Car # 256 of Team Team Sheriff had a rough start to the race.  They had a lot of little mechanical issues to deal with ......had a loose manifold (boost leak), faulty fuel injector connector, faulty distributor connector...just a lot of trouble shooting mechanical issues.  Now that they have all that fixed so far the car is running awesome.

Good Morning ChumpWorld.  We are at "The Interstate 5 Middle-of-Nowhere Grand Prix" in Buttonwillow CA.

I wonder how many people there I passed going the opposite direction on Thursday.

(Was in L.A. Wed. to drop off some stuff, and pick up some other stuff; spent all day Thursday driving from L.A. to Portland, passing B-W en-route.)
