Guest ChumpCar

The weekend started off with a great Optima Batteries ChumpCar World Series welcome party at Buffalo Wild Wings, with 300+ in attendance.  30 teams took advantage of Friday's 3:00pm - 5:00pm early move-in and unload opportunity.  It was a hot day yesterday and it's going to be just as hot Saturday and Sunday... so, everyone needs to remember --- drink one bottle of water per hour.

We have 2 racers that have come from Brazil to race here at Daytona International Speedway. Jose had heard about ChumpCar from a friend of his who has race at Homestead. After research they have rented a ChumpCar and is in Car #993-RentThisRaceCar.com. Jose came up early and was in a Taco Bell in Miami and had his car broken into and his passport, his competition licenses, laptop, etc was stolen. Later in the day he went to Best Buy to replace some of his stuff and again his car was broken into and another laptop was stolen. Hopefully they have better luck out on the racetrack today.

With just under an hour into the race we have several cars already in the paddock.  Team #711 of Turbo Fox Racing (1989 Ford Mustang) is having brake issues....For Car # 82 of Blitzvinnig (1979 Pontiac Firebird) this is not how they wanted to have their 1st Daytona experience by working in the paddock trying to figure out what is going on.  A possible push rod.

Car #186 of Carma (1986 Toyota MR2) is also in the paddock dealing with a broken radiator hose and possible engine trouble.

We have Car #304 of Lead Sled Lincoln ( 1993 Lincoln Town Car) was asked to be in the first row when we got all the cars out on track as they are an experienced crew and have raced here before.  However, ironically, the driver that took the first stint has never raced here and is one of the less experienced drivers.  David is taking the 2nd stint and he is experienced and has raced here before.  Like most little boys he played with race cars and he started out with RC cars and started racing stock at the age of 18.  His proud mom is here watching him.

Part of the team of Car # 320 of In the Red Racing ( 1994 BMW 325is) is here from Minnesota.  They were able to fly in as their car has been in FL. all winter.  One of the drivers, Mandy, is about to get in the car here at Daytona for the first time.  She did a lot of prep work by taking a mental prep day and laid out at the beach.  Her strategy is to take it easy for a couple of laps to get a feel for the car and the track then give it all she's got.

Go Mandy and the rest of the In the Red Racing!

Car #19 of Team Infiniti is having brake issues.  After exhausting all other hammering options they feel that it is an electrical issue with the wiring.  It is also a street car so he drives it around town and it was fine up until it was put on the trailer.  Looks like the car got race anxiety.
