Things went well today, we went through tech with no issues. Other than the rain.

Lloyd did a great job with tech, he made it easy and was really accommodating.

So far there are the following cars.

We head out tomorrow at 7 am to the track. Hopefully the rain will stay away.

At about 12:30pm, the race was red flagged due to heavy rain and severe storms.

At the time, the standings were:

1. #46 - 89 laps

Erik reports:

#2 Blitzen Benz started mid-pack after penalty laps were applied (they recieved -5 laps, being a previous winner). At the two hour mark they have worked up to second place on the lead lap.

#5 Acura Integra with V-tec motor and a lot of penalty laps blew their clutch slave cylinder 17 laps into the race and has only just now re-entered racing in last place.

#18 Datsun 510 is an organizer favorite with fiberglass hood, front fenders and rear fender flares. It sports dual Mikuni side draft carbs and is an old 'real' race car. Sounds sweet, but has suffered mechancial troubles and is in the pits trying to remedy.

The two TAJ Racing cars are making a good showing, running reliably and well. there is a lot of speculation over the #46 Mustang - is it a threat as a 5.0 V8, or a sure-to-explode piece of entertainment? so far, it's running well.

The #31 V6 Turbo 300zx has turned the fast lap and is living up to the concern it garnered in tech inspection - concern that got it penalty laps.

#47 and #18 are in the paddock at the moment.

The TAJ-II Mustang still leads, but the #2 Benz is closing fast on the same lap.

Fastest lap recorded so far is 1:51.110 by the #31 Nissan.

Just before 2pm, the #2 Blitzen Benz has taken the lead over the #46 TAJ-II Mustang. Both are on lap 112.

We are all dead tired from the day but I just want to thank LLoyd, Ron, Erik and everyone else for a wonderful event @ Homestead. We finished 3rd and 6th luckily. Hope everyone else had a blast as well! The bed is calling me....will write more later when I wake up on Thursday.

Even if our shark wasn't afraid of the water (went down 25 laps with wet electronics) I'm not sure we would have done any better, those top 4 cars were really running strong.

TAJ in 6th was a dead match with us, they lost a couple extra laps for other reasons,we got lucky.

Met great people everywhere today!

I have several hours of raw video to go through, some dash cam stuff coming soon from the 5th place car (us).

I can barely type, had too much fun, more later.

Thanks to everyone involved in the race. We had a great first time out. We wouldn't have bet money that our car would last the whole race but it did. The competition for 7th place was fierce. If not for pitting to drain the blow-by catch can, add oil, and change drivers so many times, we may have been able to do even better.

I have to thank Mike my teammate, without his help I would have never gotten on or back out on the track, Thank you Mike, very much.

I got laps I drove at speed in the dark and rain, at Homestead Miami, I got a trophy, I will get some sleep and get ready for Sebring , Thanks Erik and master chumps, thanks everyone

Hey every one. Good to see the Merc team made it home ok. You guys had a long donkey drive home. We stayed in town Sat Pm and got some sleep.

It was great to meet every one, there were some really nice cars. We will see every one at Sebring and have some better tires.

I figured as much. Seems as though you are getting your practice in. Congrats on your win, I am going to hate breaking your streak at RRR. I didn't know that they were penalizing previous winners 5 laps though. That was news to me. If that is the case, we will at least be in a similar boat starting out.

It seems as though you may have done this a time or two before. I ain't skeered though.

I guess we misread the rules. We were under the impression penalty Laps were assessed based on the excessive value of the car, not by how fast it may be.

If we were penalized by our perceived speed (since at that point we had never turned a lap in a Chump Car Event) how were we more penalized than a past winning car that was every bit as fast as us, except for maybe that one lap?

The impression I got during tech was they were trying to start everyone off as fair as possible by assigning penalty laps based on their experience and (perceived) speed of a car.

You guys were good, consistent and fast, if it wasn't for that one really bad lap(and forced pit stop) you may have finished 2nd or 3rd.

We did not realize you had been penalized at all.

I am not sure I got a chance to thank you for the tech chat and overall info about our car... Thanks!

I have slept more in the past two days then the last 10, or so it feels. Great vids, and just a nother thank you to all, I had a great time, no better then that. I have more experience racing to the bath room then auto endurance racing, but just you wait.

My tires were mush, my car was nice enough to show me everything that needs fixed for Sebring, I should have brought a V-8, hey I got a trophy for that, and damn proud of it.
