Greetings! Greetings from the wine bar in the Indianapolis Airport! One glass of Torbascero Malbec (2006 Argentina) down and I still have another hour to wait for Cathy (Ms. Diva!) who is soon to arrive from a connection in Chicago. Hmmmm... another glass, please! Lloyd's somewhere in the area... probably at the hotel by now, as he had a shorter flight... and Erik, well... Erik's back in Portland taking a well-deserved weekend off. I hear (through the Strangeville Chumpster Grapevine) that Erik has recently acquired a Hillman Manx! Of all the cars to get!! A Manx!! I do believe that he's jealous of Matt -- Wetville Chumpster -- and his prize fleet of Ford Anglias! Perhaps Erik will be pouring over volumes of old Chilton's manuals trying to determine what the hell a Manx is all about. LUCAS electrics!

The weather is GREAT... clear, blue, low-80's and no humidity. Should be great for racing this weekend.

Sitting in this airport-based wine bar, there's live jazz music EVERYWHERE! It seems that this is the same weekend as the Indy Jazz Festival and they're hosting a lot of musicians in the airport complex as a kick-off to the music weekend. Really fine music, too! I think that this is a great precursor to a great racing weekend. I mean... wine, live jazz, sunshine and racing! It doesn't get too much better than this!

Anyway, I'm just opening the topic... much more to follow.

John

John, I cant believe you let Erik buy a car like that. He is just a boy, you are experienced and much wiser, you should be counceling him.

I am worring that all this jetting around the country by Erik have thined his judgement. You need to have him checked, soon, if this developement is allowed to continue he could be harmed beyond repair.

This Lucas infection if left unchecked will take over his every waking moment, you will loose him to the never ending search of replacement parts and the very elusive perfect tuneup kit from the infamous Evil genius LUCAS.

Please save him, his value, dubious as it may be, will be lost forever. I know he has this lofty idea to remove all of the Evil genius from his new prize,

but you and I know from so many more years of experience that his idea is all folly and can never be acomplished, hence years ago how the drag racing comunity tried to remove all British/Lucas equipped racers drom there ranks.

Erik--- sorry you will not be at Putnam

Okay, enough about the Manx... let's get back on the main subject --- PUTNAM PARK!

Weather update: looks like 50% chance of some thundershowers rolling through Indiana today (during tech and registration) and for Saturday's 7-hour enduro, with 100% sunshine on Sunday for the second 7-hour race.

If we get any rain, that will make for some interesting dry-wet driving conditions, especially if a car goes off-track. PP looks like a well-manicured golf course... with broad, deep grass run-off areas. While picturesque, wet grass is treacherous to a race car. A car, locking up the brakes in wet grass, can actually pick-up speed... as well as lose all steering traction. This could make for some wild-rides!

More to come...

Not to be picky, but it would be a "Minx", not a "Manx". Unless, of course, someone has cut it's tail off?

Not to be the physics Nazi, but the car won't accelerate when it gets on the grass (unless you are sliding down a hill. It would (will) FEEL like it because you would go from good grip (call it 1 g of braking) to no grip (a whisker over 0 g), which would feel the same in the car as releasing the brakes.

That being said a couple of years ago at VIR, the grass was wet and a car went off at the end of the main straight, slid across a loooooooong swath of grass and ended up in the flooded river.

Yet another reason to practice getting out of the car in a hurry.

^^^^^^^^Dear Jeff,

Your post made me laugh 'til I thought I was gonna throw up. That is all.

Sincerely,

Team Stig Supra (the artist formerly known as Chumpstang)

P.S. Just a quote I thought you all may enjoy in regards to Jeff's joke: "Toyota-Moving Forward...sometimes when you don't want to."

Headgasket, distributor, engine mounts, etc. I'm just happy 'Boris' survived the day. If we can get that massive dent out of the gas tank tomorrow morning, I think we could do it on two fuel stops.

RT-615K + Mobil1 synthetic are a good thing. :) :) :)
