New Unicorn builds

Recommended Posts

4 rotor 26B. Peripheral port with adjustable length slide valve trumpets, dry sump of course and a Jerico or Super T10 transmission it looks like. Would probably rev to 10-12k and make the most unbelievable sound. Try YouTube Mazda 787 for sound clips.

I'll admit the 787 sounds better than the ear splitting Mazda Argo two rotors I remember from 80's IMSA but for sound, give me the Matra V12, and the early BRM V16 in no particular order.  That BRM is sick, 1.5 L twin supercharged 450hp plus at 12,000 plus in 1950..... That doesn't get old. Note that when they did put Fangio in the BRM and it didn't break, it was head and shoulders faster than the rest, but they could never get it to stay together.  One of the great might have beens....

One other I'll throw in that I absolutely love is the original Honda 250 and 350 SIX from Mike Hailwood days....  That is insane at nearly 20,000 rpm...

Who needs a flywheel lol

Only engine to be explicitly banned by the ACO.  787B still draws crowds anytime it is displayed or run on track nearly 30 years after its last apearance at Le Mans.  As of 2021 it is now allowed to run a rotary in Hyper Cars at Le Mans.  Here's hoping Mazda builds a new 4 rotor hybrid or turbo Hyper Car.

Would taking a Datusn 280Z and 'stuffing' a 13B in it be the equivalent of making the Squatty Potty Unicorn?

Only if there is a "t" after the b.

with the way points are now you could stuff a aluminum headed SBC pushing 400hp and have room for a T56 6 speed.

That sounds like a riot and would probably put the car up to about 520 points.  No way could it make up those penalty laps along with the extra stop for fuel.

Doubt it would be 520. You are swapping a 180hp (giggle) 350 in for the 170hp I6. heads bring you to 301, intake 25, carb 25, cam 50, headers 50 that's 456, what are the points for the trans?

Make: Datsun
Model: 280z/280zx
Year: Pre-1980
VPi: 150
Car Weight: 2588
Original HP: 170
New HP: 180
Points Added to VPi: 51
--->NEW VPI: 201

Tech interpretation & enforcement is that some cars get this for ZERO

Correct, i mean if i swapped a K24 into my 170hp car id get the mounts, race header, intake for 50 points total......wait why am i not doing that again?

What is that?

that is the Mazda 787B 4-rotor that won the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans (looking at it again, it's not teh same engine as that is front mounted, but the same basic idea as the 787B powerplant with sliding trumpets)
I was there. It sounded loud. But not the best sounding car at the race.
I think the best sounding cars were the Peugeot 905 and the Mercedes-Benz C11.

Cause the K24 would go bang with all the high rpm running required?????

Guess we may find out with 190E #2 if it gets off the ground.

Remove K24 and insert any other 170-200hp motor that runs well, point still applies.
