Mopar 63
Hope everyone is having a happy new year. As you are getting your cars ready for the 2017 season take a few minutes and remove all your previous sponsor stickers so you'll be ready for our new 2017 sponsors and windshield banner. Print a new tech sheet and do your own safety checks. Look at your cage and make sure all welds are completed 360's. Look at your window nets and make sure the leading edge is even or in front of the steering wheel or install a small piece of plexiglass, and check your dates. New for 2017 9.7.5.1. Three (3) large14” x 24” and one (1)small 3” x 11” OFFICIAL CHUMPCAR backgrounds are required. 9.7.3. Numbers must be shown on both doors, the roof and rear bumper. Look forward to seeing you at the track. Phil
Gearhead_42
Thanks Phil! @Mopar 63 Could you clarify 2 of your points for me? 1st, "dates"... previously only BELTS were subject to expiration, not nets. Which safety items are subject to expiration based on date in 2017? 2nd, "all welds"... this has previously been enforced as "all tube-to-tube and tube-to-mount plate" must be 360 welds, not necessarily tube-to-tabs or base plates-to-floorpan as long as those were of good quality and sufficient for purpose. Is this still a correct interpretation? Thanks, hoping this save some people (me) some confusion and panic this year. -Dan
takjak2
It was asked in another thread, haven't seen a response: Are the reflective number panels (almost twice the cost) sufficient to not require the little plastic LED housing for night racing? @chisek stated in another thread that the smaller rear number panels will be given to teams at tech and that teams with good existing rear numbers would not require them. Technically they are not listed as having to be SFI rated or replaced every 4 years the same as belts but why would you not replace them? Yes all tube to tube welds shall be 360 welds. Incomplete welds on the minimum required bars will not pass and shall be repaired. Phil
Boy Blunder
Not to argue, but I needed a new net this year and in reading the rules , it states they DO need to be SFI rated. 3.5. WINDOW NETS / ARM-RESTRAINTS 3.5.1. All competition cars must have an SFI-approved window net mounted to the cage of the car
Technical Advisory Committee Chris Huggins Posted January 19, 2017 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted January 19, 2017 Can we get some more info for the windshield banner? I currently have a paying sponsor for the windshield spot. If we really have to pull that off for a chump decal, it will be pulling money directly from my pocket.

E-mail response I received from Mike: "The windshield banner is trimmable. The logo is in the center so the ends can be cut to fit the windshield. In addition, there is enough extra material that the height could be cut down from 6” to 5”. The final product is no bigger than the blue tinted area at the top of factory windshields." I was asking about ordering a Miata size, but it does confirm that these are a reality. I suspect we'll be seeing a lot more in two weeks at RA. I made a brief comment about it here when it was announced but never followed up on it. Any chance the banners could be different colours? It helps to identify your car while on track. At least a few different colours would help with that. Either by choice, or maybe by class?
Technical Advisory Committee Ray Franck Posted January 20, 2017 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted January 20, 2017 Yeah different bright colors for each class but I heard they are all orange and orange is OK with me .. Sucks to have a pink car. lol or even red really... I would hope whatever sponsor it is cares enough about making the cars look good to allow for some different colors or backgrounds to make it match.. even if it requires approval in advance..
