Ogren-Engineering
Interest checking for high mount rear wing kits. It should be about 40$ plus shipping. Reply here . The Kit will include the foam cores @ 72x15in and be split for the spar. You will have to build the spar and cover the wing with fiberglass cloth/paint. If we get enough interest we could build them complete for 200$. Edited February 8, 2017 by flyinglizard
enginerd
40$ is less than flyingfoam charges for the core alone. I assume you would be hot-wiring the airfoil? I might be interested.
Ogren-Engineering
Just the cores for 40$ , no metal . no fiberglass , no nuttin but the foam . yes, hot wired foam cores. If I do it, I will design around a 1x2 rectangle tube spar . It should make about 400# pressure @ 9* AOA. with tip plates.
Administrators E. Tyler Pedersen Posted February 8, 2017 Administrators Report Share Posted February 8, 2017 I'd be interested just so I have something to test at track days.
Technical Advisory Committee Chris Huggins Posted February 8, 2017 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted February 8, 2017 What do you mean "Split for the spar"? What airfoil will you be using? Any reason to use such a large spar? Why a rectangular spar? Pictures? I Just built one, so this process is fresh in my mind. For just the airfoil (no uprights, end plates, etc) I am in for $200 (Foam core, Fiberglass + Epoxy, Mounting Bosses) I would consider building another for my 2nd car. mhr650
Here is a tip for anyone looking to laminate a foam core. These are woven sleeves like a Chinese finger cuff, you kind of scrunch them up and slide over the core then start in the middle and as you pull the weave out towards the end it will shrink down and lock in place tightly over the foam core. Just use as many layers as you need to get the needed strength. http://www.sollercomposites.com/composites/carbon fiber sleeves.html#carbonfiberglass
Ogren-Engineering
Nice and I can design around that, but we cant use carbon.. Carbon wings we can buy.
mhr650
Scroll down they have fiberglass, and they have it in the sizes we would need to cover a big wing core.
Ogren-Engineering
Thanks, I'l llook tonight and cut something that can use a stock size wrap.
mhr650
That is diameter, a long thin wing profile would be nowhere near circular in shape. I can lay out a wing profile and get the perimeter and convert it to an equivalent diameter really easy in CAD. Plus the way these sleeves work they can expand or contract probably 2X at least their rated diameter.
Hi_Im_Will
I think ya'll should have to make your wings out of wood. Back in my day, we made wings out of wood and LIKED IT. Harrumph.
Technical Advisory Committee Andrew D Johnson Posted February 8, 2017 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted February 8, 2017 Y'all aero obsessed folks should step up your diffuser game.
Hi_Im_Will
Maybe if a diffuser like that wasn't 300 points. FREE THE DIFFUSERS!!!!!!

Hi_Im_Will
Back in my day, all this aluminum was only 170 points! OK, so Klaatu's diffuser is probably only ~30 points under the current rules. Still far too much - diffusers are very points inefficient. And if you look closely at our car, it already has a zero-point diffuser. Just not as pretty and efficient as we'd like. Maybe it will get adjusted in the future

Technical Advisory Committee Chris Huggins Posted February 16, 2017 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted February 16, 2017 @flyinglizard I was hoping you would show us the foil and indicate what is part of the kit. If you can give some details, you could get my interest as well.
