Rodger Coan-Burningham
Made the trip from the east coast to run this one with the cousin. This track was quite the challenge, lots of blind stuff, no traction when it got wet in a lot of places. Great fun, good times by all. Hope chump can get the numbers to run this again some time.
Pee Wee
Pomona Speed Shop in car # 236 had a great time and a decent run. We had a bottom radiator hose fall off on Saturday (still cant wrap my head around that, clamp was good) and went down 12 laps because it refused to take on water after the fix. We ran clean the rest of the day and finished 13th or 12th excluding EC cars. Sunday went better and we just cut laps and dumped fuel with Cousin Rodger posting our best lap at 2:08 and change then the rain and he spent more time spinning than he did going forward. Skyler Gambrell got in for the last hour and tried not to hit anything and we finished 8th or 6th without EC cars. Cool facility and its a bummer more cars didn't show up because the grumbling I heard was this one cost a grip to rent. Weather sucked but the garage made it better. Great job Bill, Sandi, and the entire CHUMP staff especially the dude down on our end of the pits working safety he was on task and it was good to see a guy take that job serious. Don't have a plan for our next adventure yet but COTA in May is tempting, or Laguna July. Hope to see some of you there. VERY nice to see you guys running up front with a GREAT group of cars. As far as your next race, if you don't go to COTA, the Vegas 13 on the Roval is AWESOME!!! Ask anyone that has done it and this time it is in May instead of August!!! We are calling it the "Not as HOT 13!" Again guys, GREAT JOB!!! FastCars
Looks like the Dimsun car had some contact, maybe with a wall? Was that yesterday or today? That was an off in the Mud. Dimsun Racing
The Dimsun Z hit the tire wall late on Saturday. Luckily didn't put the wheels out of align just major sheet metal damage. The muffler was bent up at a crazy angle but worked okay for the rest of Sat race. We pounded out the panels and got the door to open and the exhaust straightened for Sun. He early apexed the 2nd part of turn 1 and hit an offline pavement repair edge at the same time and went sideways, overcorrected and went sideways off turn 2, scrubbed off a lot of speed on the uphill but still going too fast to stop in the grass. Got towed out of the mud and back into the race. Running 2nd near the end but out of gas on the last 4 laps and got passed for 2nd about 3 turns from the checkered. Sunday we worked a tire strategy, starting with the used tires from the Sat race we changed to some new Toyos on the 2nd stint. It worked well on the last stint we had more grip than most everyone and a really good rain driver. Again we had fueling problems for the last 4 laps, zero gauge pressure and acting like it was out of fuel and running on 2 or 3 cylinders over the line, a real nail biter. Starting to think it's a venting issue or something because we just installed a larger cell because of previous fuel capacity problems. Also we don't have a gauge yet because no time to install a sender. Thanks to Sandy and Bill and everyone at Chumpcar for a great race, we had an excellent time.
Voodoo Child
Congratulations to UBoot Rennworks and Dimsun Racing on their victories, MAJOR thanks to Chumpcar for enabling us to race at Infineon Raceway--and thanks to the Bill, Sandi, and the Chumpcar Board members for (once again) the great hospitality throughout the weekend. I would encourage all Chumps to make this track one of their bucket list tracks. Be sure and take advantage of the practice day because the track is challenging and fun. We had access to garages, the food is good, and the onsite Race Shop has everything a racer might need at the track-driver suits/helmets/Hans/etc, Rugged radios, GoPRO's, Reline Oils, and lots of videos, books and memorabilia. It is like a Club Med for racers. Special thanks to Pomona Speed Shop, the Flyin' Hawaiians, and the Door Slammers for always being there to help with parts, advice, some wrenching, and lots of encouragement.
swms
The lap counts and results don't match between the three sources linked from the home page and the results page and the first post in the forum. Might require a bit of auditing to see what really happened. I see an example of which you speak - Frasun #72 won on Saturday (and the total time reflects that), but the positions are reversed with Uboot. @FastCars and @Aleru would you please review posted results to ensure they are accurate and consistent? Or provide an explanation? Thanks much! @swms in the future, contact Bill Guzenski (FastCars), Western Region Director with concerns about any posted results. lenbo211
Starting to think it's a venting issue or something because we just installed a larger cell because of previous fuel capacity problems. Also we don't have a gauge yet because no time to install a sender. Thanks to Sandy and Bill and everyone at Chumpcar for a great race, we had an excellent time. I'm really curious to see if you find anything. You have the Hydromat right? I had issues at my last race with my new cell that came with a Hydromat. My last cell came with a surge tank that I swapped out with the Hydromat. Not a single problem. Then when I bought my larger cell, I had the factory install the Hydromat. On Saturday at Thunderhill it was acting like vapor lock after driving for about 1:50 the first session, 1:40 the second session and 1:30 the 3rd session. My car should go easily over 2 hours with the current cell. Prior to THill, I ran a couple races without issue before 2 hours. The only other thing I changed that I could think of between ORP and THill was my exhaust. It used to dump out the side of the car in front of the tires. We were having exhaust fume issues and kept scraping them on the FIA strips at ORP so I changed them to dump straight down in front of the axle in the middle of the car. (That didn't fix the exhaust smell by the way.) Prior to making that change I could go 2 hours easy. So, on Saturday night at THill I popped open the cell to see if maybe my Hydramat pickup had come loose from the fuel pump. It was solid, but I noticed that the fuel was warm. I'd say over 80 degrees, maybe even 90. This was even after going to dinner and letting the car sit for a couple hours. So, we figured maybe the exhaust was venting too close to the tank and heating it up causing the Hydramat to stop working correctly. The decreasing run time makes sense if that is the issue. When we started the race, the fuel was cool so it ran 1:50. Then we dumped new fuel in which was cool, but the fuel still in the tank was warm so the temp didn't drop as much causing it to get warm sooner at 1:40. Each time we stopped earlier so didn't put quite as much fuel in so it didn't cool down quite as much. So, on Sunday we got some flexible exhaust pipe and diverted the dump away from the cell to the side. Because the race length allowed us to do 1:45 stops we never pushed it to see if we fixed it, but we were able to go 1:45 each session. Not sure where you vent your exhaust, but figured I'd let you know what I experienced. Len #221 Red Mustang.
lenbo211
Hey Chump, Good job on the live feed. I enjoyed going and watching things a few times through out the weekend. I'd suggest not trying to run facebook live stream though. That seemed to really cause some lag issues which is the only reason I didn't have it on all weekend long. de3ug
The No Gray Matter Racing team had a great time this weekend. Thanks to everyone for making this event happen. We all learned a lot as drivers this weekend, but found driving in the extreme wet on Friday to be particularly illuminating. We spent some time in the garage during the race fixing mechanical problems, but still got plenty of track time and finished 22nd and 23rd. An abbreviated list of issues we had this weekend include: a failing wheel bearing, a blown fuel pump fuse, stuck brake caliper, loose starter wiring (had to push start the car during a few pitstops on Sunday), intermittent comms, and um... we lost a wheel. We got it back, but it was a little embarrassing. Despite all that, we drove the car onto the trailer after the race without anything seriously damaged. This is a first for us, so we are really thrilled that we don't have to rebuild the car again before our next race. We plan to be at Laguna Seca in July. I thought the ChumpCast Live feed was awesome and plan to look into adding a feed from our car for that race. Until then, here are the GoPro highlight from our race:

Chappy
Team On Second Thought (141 Miata) made it through the weekend well. This is only the second race we have entered with the car, it started the weekend with a completely new drivetrain to us (things didn't go well in the last race!). Overall the car did great, we had a 15min stop on Saturday to fix a broken exhaust hanger, and had to replace an axle seal Saturday night. In total for the weekend the car was on track for 15 hrs, we completed 320 laps between the two days, consumed approximately 110 gallons of gas. Only 2 of our 5 drivers had ever been on track at Sonoma, so we had a learning curve throughout the weekend. I'm glad that most of the race it stayed semi dry the whole weekend. The 2nd S was a challenge all weekend due to the water, and when it started raining the track turned into a sheet of ice! While our final standings weren't maybe as good as we had hoped, this was a very successful weekend for the car and team. We are looking forward to the next race with Chump. Thanks for putting on the event! It was great to get time in at Sonoma. Edited February 25, 2017 by Chappy
