Pull My Finga Racing
1997 Mazda Miata Track Car (not street legal), just received as a trade-in on another track car. The previous owner originally kept the car at Laguna Seca CA to use as a weekend track car. The car is equipped with the following: Stock Miata engine but upgraded with a Flyin’ Miata Turbo (with intercooler) with 10 lb boost rated at 250HP rear wheels dyno verified (previous owner assure me that he has eliminated the common overheat problem with Turbos!) Aluminum oversized radiator Monte Carlo bar for frame stiffening 6 speed upgraded Miata transmission 410 rearend set up for track use (top speed at 125mph) Ultra Shield race seat/Sparco harness for the driver with added passenger’s seating for passenger/instructor Toyo Proxes 205/50ZR15’s (plenty of tread left) mounted on Team Dynamics alloy wheels Flyin’ Miata coilovers Ground Control rollbar Momo detachable steering wheel Power windows Power mirrors Power steering Upgraded Blue Hawk brake pads All lighting in tact If you’re looking for an inexpensive weekend track car or for more serious competition, this car is a pleasure to drive (and a swift kick in the pants!). Needs a few items to run Chump (full roll cage; fire safety system; etc). For a viewing appointment, please contact John Haigler at Haigler Motors, Inc. in Tyler, Texas team member of PullMyFingaRacing #168 1968 Mustang Coupe. I can be reached at 903-258-2591 for calls or text and jchaigler@gmail.com for email inquiries.
turbogrill
275 base points + 100 points for Turbo + 100 points for intercooler? 25 points left for a swaybar.. Is that it?
espog
+10 for strut tower bar +20 for aluminum radiator +25 for trans swap +40 for coilovers +? for different header did i forget anything? just curious how much? turbogrill
Forgot about the tranny...I wonder what upgraded means. I would get rid of the coil overs, strut brace, alloy rad and do some cheaty struts and springs. Build a cheaty monster roll cage with bars everywhere (spray the bar with invisible spray so tech don't see them). Sounds like a fast class B toy. LAMR2
Intercoolers are only 25 points. It would be pretty ridiculous to have them cost the same as the turbo. 275 base 100 turbo 25 intercooler 25 exhaust manifold 10 strut bar 20 radiator 25 transmission 480 TOTAL You'd have to remove the coilovers and replace it with stock suspension or a coilover kit. Coilover spring kit would put you at 520pts, but stock you wouldn't be taking laps. If you're being honest you'd have to add a few points for the sheet metal that makes up the air box and radiator ducting, though. Edit: 375MPV, not 275, so it's way up over 500. (For a NA engine TB+intake is 100pts...) It's a 97 so 375 base...
enginerd
- trans would be 25 IF it is from another car on the list.. doesn't say what model it's from and I don't know miatas... - sounds like the diff is also a swapped one, 25 points same as above. - "monte carlo bar" whatever that is, sounds like it would be another 10ish points. (comparable to strut bar)
LAMR2
Yeah I assumed the Monte Carlo bar was just the strut bar, so I listed it as that. The diff ratio is a stock option for a 1.8, so I don't think you'd have to claim that. The 6-speed was available 2000+, so that's definitely a swap. Turbogrill is right about the MPV, though. There's no way you're keeping the car from taking laps unless you want to overheat every few laps.
turbogrill
A 1.6 Miata at moderate boost sounds like a interesting setup. There is also superchargers, maybe they are less prone to explode than turbos? Forced induction kits are $5k, early NA can be found for pennies, $5k for cage/seat/fire. So maybe a solid forced induction NA can be built for a little less than $15k?
mhr650
I seriously considered it, working for a turbo company it would be nice to actually run a turbo car. A 1.6 is 250 points base, add the turbo, charge air cooler, big radiator, big oil cooler and you are at 415 giving you 85 points to play with. With full stand-alone ECU free you can dial in pretty much any power level you want, free shocks, free springs, free bushings, free Wilwood brakes, 245 tires you could build an absolute rocket. The thing standing in the way of building one of these is the 12 gallon fuel tank, I don't see any way you could make 2hrs at say 200-250hp. Ron_e
The turbo also has to come from a car on the list too.

If you really know how to wrench a Nissan 280zxt could be an option (150 points+100 for turbo?). 180hp stock, ~2550 race weight and 21 gallon tank. 175 point to play with I thought about it but I don't have the skill to make something like that last.
Pull My Finga Racing
Pricing for the car is $8,987. As far as the points, I'm not an expert on the rules, so if you have specific questions, please ask & I'll find out the answer. The turbo came from Flyin' Miata (previous owner says he cured the typical overheat from the turbo by re-routing the fluids). The transmission is a 6 speed miata, but not sure what year model. For transmission, the rules are very clear with the "from a vehicle on the VPI list," but the new rules written for turbochargers and superchargers make no mention of that whatsoever. I assumed this was intentional, opening up turbos to cars with low enough MPV to afford them. Anyone know?
Ian Moone
Yank the 6 speed and replace it with the 5 speed and get back the 25 points. Not very many folks are "racing" with the 6 gear.

So pretty sure that would be correct.
Ron_e
If you could do any turbo then... Cougar with 24 gallons and a twin turbo Hellion kit for $5k anyone?

Interesting. Thanks for the response. To avoid hijacking this thread any further, I'm going to post this question in the Tech sub-forum. Limiting turbos to those on the VPI list isn't something I had even considered because there's no mention of that in the rules. What happens when teams start trying to go the turbocharger route and they haven't had the same 1 on 1 discussion with Bill Chisek that you had? Hopefully we can get some clarity on this. Hahaha, my mistake. In fairness, there are so many "Bill"s in the Chumpcar organization that it's usually a pretty safe bet.
