Same story as you guys too. Car isn't ready yet... (I'm not telling what's getting worked on, but my car will need a lot of work to come close to you's guys's. I may never be finished.)

More aero? Where you gonna put it?

Remember to change the pads

Either that or I will have to brake at the imaginary 6 marker and do a lot of coasting.... The main purpose of attending this track day will be to see what @Crank Yankers Racing, @Hi_Im_Will, and @mcoppola have been up to this winter. It's far too good of a scouting opportunity to pass up :)

I won't be out there on the 14th-15th. Still too much (secret) work to do. We'll pick a day when nobody is looking...

Was doing 1:45.5s in February with one cylinder down 80psi.  We'll have some new goodies on the car, maybe I can get it down into the 1:42.xx range if the weather cooperates.....

1:39 will have to wait for the full car CFD and associated aero changes to be finished, and the Rival S v1.5 in 245/40R15 to hit the market.  And good weather.  And luck.  And a better driver than me.  Maybe all that will happen for the August race :)

Come and join the fun!  I'm sure @Hi_Im_Will will be running circles around me all day.

I'll be there too, trying to run circles around those guys... lol.   stock engine full interior Miata....   So, hoping for rain?

j/k j/k - I do not want rain.  Had enough of that out at Gingerman lately.

What a beautiful day! Just got back. Nice seeing @Hi_Im_Will, @Crank Yankers Racing, and @NigelStu! Also talked with a new to chumpcar team testing a Toyota (debuting in August) and a team starting on an e30 chump build, and a couple more with interest but no plans yet.

@red0 and I had fun running my DD 335i and got some coaching from Ben... he's quite the Gingerman expert and very fast in his Miata!

@enginerd No way!! i didn't think you were going Nate. i was out there all day yesterday and can echo your comments that it was great seeing all those guys too! I went up and parked up on the hill for over an hour during part of the day. I hope you got the chance to do that too, as you can see the whole track from there, something we rarely get to do when racing or working pit lane. Glad you had a good time.

@Crank Yankers Racing - Tyler, did you ever get the misfire issues fixed for today. hope so...

That track day was a learning experience!  I think I'm going to spend the next couple of days going over data, and trying to figure out how to make the cooling system keep up with the new aero and tune.

Here's some imprecise tastes, before I get into the real math:

First new piece of data:  The car can tolerate no warmer than 60F ambient long-term as it was set up for the track day.  Got some work to do.  Good thing forcast for MidO is 57:D

Second new piece of data:  The M20B25 at 7200rpm sounds like angels singing

Third new piece of data:  The M20B25 cooling system is not designed for sustained 7200rpm

Fourth new piece of data:  I blew away my personal best by over half a second, on a sloppy lap, with traffic, and 30 minutes of sleep the night before.  The car is definitely faster than last year.

7200rpm sounds like rocker arms breaking...  Why are you spinning her that high?

Because the development chip we had in the car let it go that high and I wanted to see what it sounded like.  Why else?

7200rpm is the generally accepted limit of a healthy stock valvetrain, but there's no reason to go that high with the stock cam and valves.  Maybe to avoid a 2-3 shift right before a slow corner on an autocross course, but that's about it.  The race chip is limited at 7k, and its only that high to allow revving out to avoid a quick 3rd-4th-3rd right before a corner.

What a horrible weekend at the track.  We didn't get many laps in to test some new items that we had on the car.  I will say the car is way faster than it was last year from the little bit of time.  I have to work on the fuel issue on the car so I can have it ready for Mid Ohio.

Faster after swapping down from the M50 to M20 ? Or faster from other changes like handling / tires.

I reduced the car's weight a lot and still have more to go.

These days, I'll work for rubber if you're interested in a full car cfd done for the August race. I'm sharing ours on my website, and I'm guessing yours would be quite different.

For S&G, here are a few laps from this years OLOA.

Camera car is my 1.8L Miata...

just kidding.   E93 M3.  Minor exhaust changes, camber plates up front, Michelin Pilot SS, Hawk DTC-70 brakes.  The rest of it is all stock, all ~4000+ lbs of it. :)

Pretty amazing what light weight, over-spec'd tires and aero can do for lap times.   ~2.5 times the power of the M20 powered machines, but also 1.5-2x the weight of some of the really fast cars that are in the low 1:40 range.  Here's hoping Will can rebuild the new car to run 1:40.1s.
