Technical Advisory Committee NigelStu Posted April 1, 2017 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted April 1, 2017 1 ton HF engine hoist up for sale. Detroit area, pick-up only. $100 assembled and ready to go. Fancy orange paint can give your garage that pizazz that it is missing. This one worked great for cars with shorter noses like Miatas and FWD cars. Reach is right on edge for E30s. The Datsun's long-arse nose requires all sort of crap to be removed before I can use it, so I'm upgrading to the longer-reach 2-ton model, and the silver paint on that one is gonna clash with the orange paint of the one I have, so its gotta go. jperl
why not just buy a longer piece of box tubing, drill a hole in it and slide it in place of the existing extension bar. I'm only pulling little Miata engine/trans, but works perfect with an extended tube. Only thing the 2ton model has is an 8ton ram vs 3ton ram, and a longer arm. Everything else is near identical.
Technical Advisory Committee NigelStu Posted April 12, 2017 Author Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted April 12, 2017 Because L28s with trans attached are north of 500 lbs. I don't like the factor of safety of extending the boom any further.

I had to do this to get the rotary out of our car. That said, the length of the arm is proportionate to the length of the legs. If you extend the arm too much, the whole thing will tip over on the engine.
