Anybody need help at the Glen in May?

Recommended Posts

Looking to learn the ropes by volunteering to help a team. I'm not going to post my entire resume but I've been working on cars for well over 10 yrs. I work in a body shop and have ASE certs older than some of the cars competing. I've been into cars since before I could walk. I've got some project cars of my own (SCCA stuff) but i'd love to dip my toe in grassroots endurance racing. I'd love to become part of the mechanical struggle that is chumpcar and be a part of a team and not just a visitor. I want a challenge, i want to have a "dog in the fight"

The best way to learn the ropes is to volunteer with Chump as pit lane support. For starters, they are always looking for help so it's a big help to the series. You also get to watch what EVERY team is doing on pit lane (the good teams and the bad). And you get to hear what is going on via race control on the radios.

If you help a team directly, they could end up having an uneventful race with no mechanical issues (it does actually happen some times...!) and you will hang around all day for a bit of chit chat and a few pit stops. Don't get me wrong, that's a fun day out at track too, but helping with Chump is a better learning experience!

If you show up, they will sign you up to volunteer.  I don't think they ever turn volunteers away.

Sitting isn't an easy option.  In fact, one of the primary responsibilities for a PIT lane volunteer is to tell people to stop sitting on the pitwall.

However, there are other volunteer positions that would probably allow sitting most of the day.  Chump does a good job of looking out for people.  I am pretty sure they could find something for you.

If not, come hang out in our pits!  We don't usually have too many incidents and the race itself can be quite boring (if it going well).

I Love boring races!

Just signed up to volunteer. My only concerns are that I'm a disabled vet so ideally I need to be able to sit down. Secondly my primary emails seem to really struggle to get emails from this site. Hopefully I hear back from someone soon and it all works out.

They'll look after you somehow.  You may even end up in race control.

You wanna do some fueling during the race?  We need a fueler.
