Trying to join/create team in Ithaca/Watkins/Elmira NY

Recommended Posts

Anyone want to form a team in upstate NY Finger Lakes region?  I'm 25, work as an engineer.  I competed in FSAE in college, worked as a mechanic part-time in school, and I'm really anxious to get back into wrenching.  I have some tools, but no garage space.

Hey! I an in the CNY region (Utica right now and moving to Binghamton soon) and long term have goals to operate a CC team. Also engineer (CNC process engineering), 22, just finished school and started working. Need some time to get on my feet with life in general, but definitely aim to get started on CC in the next couple years. I currently have a team that came together through simracing, but they're based out of Virginia. Planning on racing the 24 hr @ VIR with them this year, and some other racing, but hope to eventually operate a sister team in the northeast.

I am a Miata freak, so that would almost definitely be my choice of car for Chump. Currently dailying/autocrossing/tracking my NB1, so I have been getting very comfortable with wrenching, modifying and driving them over the past year or so and it makes sense for me to transfer that knowledge to a race car. I also have tools, but no garage right now. Have a few friends who are great fabricators that could help out as needed and some that may be interested in actually being a part of a team. When I move to Binghamton I am hoping to find somewhere with a two car garage to base my current Miata and eventually a race car out of. I'll pm you contact info if you're interested.

Sounds good.

I also work in CNC manufacturing (orthopedic implants).  Outside of FSAE, I don't really have much racing experience, but love fixing/building cars, except for when I hate it.

If we found 1-2 other interested people, would you be open to renting garage space somewhere accessible from Ithaca (where I live), Elmira (where I work) or Binghamton?  Someplace like this https://elmira.craigslist.org/off/6140948147.html?  $650/mo divided by three or four people is a small price to pay for a place that has a lift.

Always cool to see fellow racers from my hometown area.  I'm originally from Newark Valley, NY.  I'm currently living in Las Vegas because I've been in the AIr Force for the past 8 years.  I haven't had the pleasure of running Watkins Glen, but I've got a majority of the great tracks here on the west coast.  Someday I plan on hauling the car back to NY so I can visit family and get an event in while I'm there. :)

Hi, I'm in Corning and interested in getting into CC.  Did you folks get a team together last year?  Have a need for another member?  If so, I'd like to talk.  Friends currently run in CC but teams are full.  I've run BMW's at WGI since '96 in BMWCCA (including as instructor) as well as Trackmasters.  Also ice racing various cars.  Garage space at my house could possibly be available if needed.  No 4-post lift at this time.

Let me know if you would.

Cheers

Hey folks, I am hooked up with Occam's Racers in Ithaca now. There's also a Miata team team in Corning that might be worth getting in touch with for some of you guys. Not sure how much need there is for more people on either team.

Woody, I know you posted a while ago but do you race with AMEC? I do too, last year ran the 117 Miata in SL2, this year will be 237 in the same car, SLS2. Hit me up if you're there!

Hi Robasaurus - I never did get hooked up with a team in the Corning area.  I'd still like to at some point.  Do you have a car?  My M3 is not legal  for CC.  I want to try hillclimbs as it should be legal (caged, etc).

the.cheat - I haven't run with AMEC but many years with CNYIRA.  Also, some unofficial gatherings in the general area.  I have my Hakka 8's to be legal in AMEC if I ever make it over to ADK area!  I came back from living in NH (no ice racing believe it or not.  AMEC or Maine were the closest) and was surprised how well my Mazdaspeed3 ran with the new Hakkas.  One guy said "I didn't know the MS3 came in four wheel drive", which it doesn't of course....
