Axxe
So, we went to test the car last night after replacing the grenaded transmission, everything was going great until we got to about 2/3 of a tank and experienced fuel starvation. Topped the tank and issue went away (obviously but wanted to eliminate that issue). My thoughts are a pump that is on the way out? This year with the loosening of rules we can run aftermarket injectors right? Or at least injectors from a different model? For our 2.4 swap we can either run 24lb/hr injectors with 45psi regulator or stock injectors with a 58psi regulator. Would it be better to run lower pressure with more flow or is higher pressure preferred? Thanks for any input.
mcewena
Mopar has special ecu software to protect you from yourself. The fuel starvation is to make the engine last the whole race.
Mopar 4 Life
Get a new "sock" for your intank pre-filter. Also double check your intank pump is seated. And no fast leaks in your canister. The canister is gravity fed. And about 2/3 of the way down the canister can be exposed. So either it's leaking(canister) or it can't draw in fuel fast enough(pre filter). sorry I was driving back from Chatham when you texted.

I just ordered a new pump just in case, doesn't hurt to have a spare anyway. Looks like a simple sock, is there one application specific? I'll search on the org. We are pulling the pump out tomorrow night to inspect everything, hopefully it's simple enough to not slow us down anymore. This canister you speak of, this is inside the tank and holds the fuel pump inside of it? The white canister below I assume?
Mopar 4 Life
No, there is only one type of sock. The sock is also known as the pre filter. Where the sock attaches there is a very simple one way valve. If it leaks that would cause the canister to drain and would cause you premature starvation issue. The idea of the canister is that it is of a different pressure of the tank so fuel wants to be forced in. So if it leaks there is a problem.

Yummy Handling the fuel as much as we do, gas station fill barrel, fill numerous jugs, funnel sitting out all day etc. lots of opportunity to introduce contaminants! Axxe
Just now, wvumtnbkr said: To be honest, I would expect worse to be causing your issue. I would keep looking.... I have a new pump assembly in the mail. Hoping that solves all of it, the little rubber seal was loose too, and this pump didn't sound too great while pumping the tank down. It left a solid 20L/5gallons in it with the car standing still.
wvumtnbkr
Thats.... bad. Glad your replacing the assembly.
Axxe
If anyone cares to know, turns out the pressure regulator was on its last legs as well. New intank pump plus regulator, ran flawlessly all weekend at mosport. Drove on the fuel light for 12 minutes with intermittent starvation but still running within 2 seconds of best lap. Thanks for all the help!
