TastyChevelle
I'm interested in being on the crew of a team who needs it and/or to drive. I am currently on my college's formula SAE team and our Michigan competition was jam packed with car problems so I have experience with long hours and wrenching on cars. I have experience driving at a couple autocross weekends as well but no other real racing experience yet. Not that everyone should trust simulators but I have around ~700 hours of sim racing experience (the best way to waste time IMO) and I feel like a lot of the reactions and concepts translate well to real life driving. Someday when I and a few others can afford it I want my own ChumpCar team and to drive it.
zack_280
There is a race at BIR in mid-July. If no one takes you up on the crewing offer, you can volunteer. You'll probably end up working as a pit road marshal, where you basically get yell at people to put their visors down during fueling all day. But you'll also get to meet the Chumpcar staff and other racers. You'll also have a really good idea of what's going on behind the scenes and you'll get good ideas for what to do and what not to do by watching other teams. https://www.chumpcar.com/volunteer.php
Administrators E. Tyler Pedersen Posted June 28, 2017 Administrators Report Share Posted June 28, 2017 If you want to come and hang out with us for the weekend at BIR you're more than welcome! We have done over 30 races with ChumpCar and like to think we know what we are doing at the track. Feel free to send me a PM and let me know if you want to hang out with us.
ABR-Glen
I am UMN FSAE Alumni as well as two other current drivers on my team. You should come up to the BIR race in a few weeks for sure. There aren't as many MN based ChumpCar teams as there used to be, but I know most of them. I guess I forgot to set "Notify via email" about replies because I would have responded sooner. I will certainly stop by at BIR! I volunteered to be a pit/tech crew member for the event so I will be around for sure. Gorillasticker.com
If you're still looking to crew or drive for a MN based team we are looking to add another guy for Gingerman in Michigan later this month.
