Stangracer
the late model stock car class that was to be run in the Chump series? I have been considering picking up one of these cars and doing the research ran across info regarding the Chump series from 2015. But that appears to be the only information out there... it sort of vanished. Was as the idea dropped? Did everyone that were talking about it go to SCCA GTA?
jmabarone
I believe it was dropped because Mike C. had to take over the reins of Chump.
Stangracer
Thanks jmabarone... Has anyone expressed any interest in revisiting the stock car class? I currently race a Mustang with NASA. I have several friends that chase one another in circles every weekend and the cost to operate those cars is significantly less than I spend on my "stockish" Mustang.

I would suspect that as long as you were willing to run 200tw DOT tires (which I think would be a big ask)... you would be able to run them in EC, get enough to show up and you could probably carve out a "class" sort of how our local cart tracks do things... (assuming the exhibition events dont show any significant issues with safety). The biggest concerns I would have would be the engines, just not sure they would love the endurance aspect, and then there is the idea of race gas, seems expensive to me. I know their race tires are pretty cheap, and can come in some compounds that might work, but the tires would be my biggest concern with car speeds, put on slicks and you might just be too fast to run with chump... adapt the car to run on DOT tires, and it significantly limits how fast you can be.
Stangracer
It seemed like they had a pretty good rule set back in late 2015... pump fuel, limited horsepower, cheap tires, etc...

I can't see where you live, but: There's a series up here in Portland called "Great American Stockcar Series" [GASS] which runs Late Models on road courses. There's a "open" class for the GT1 and SPO types, and a "410" class which uses a spec engine (410 HP, 410 lb./ft torque) built by the series. Races are 20-30 minutes long, so pit stops aren't an issue. If you're on the West Coast, you might want to check it out. If not... well: The guy who runs GASS also owns most of the cars involved, so if you feel like running your own series....

That sounds like a really cool organization... but I am on the opposite side of the continent. I know of if a couple fellas that run LMSC's with NASA in Super Unlimited but they are no match for the prototypes... I was just wondering what happened with the class in the Chump Series. It seemed like there was a good amount of interest... the more places there are to run those cars would bring even more interest in converting them for road racing. pintodave
I was pretty bummed it did not take off. I was just getting pretty committed with the Camaro build back then or else I would have sourced one up. I think it turned into that vicious circle of 20 people sitting around saying "well if they start it I'd be interested" so ends up no one shows up with one. I still think the idea has merit and maybe it will get revisited in the future.
Justin9
I liked the idea... and know someone who has an open wheel modified... wink wink...

Seriously. But that frees up a slot for a Late Model LOL

Technical Advisory Committee Ray Franck Posted July 11, 2017 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted July 11, 2017 Yeah I got all jacked up about it and had a motor built for mine .Sprint racing kinda fizzled and so did the late model deal , dang it ... Cam Benty
It would be on the verge of illegal fun wise to do an E class. Build a car with the best factory bits with a cut off of say the year 2000. For the domestic gang it would be cheaper than building a chumpcar in the current rules excluding the safety equipment. On the current tire rules. Edited July 11, 2017 by Cam Benty spelling

Hmm -- there's a "V8 Road Racing Series" which runs East Coast out to Road America; have you looked at it? 23 hours ago, Stangracer said: I was just wondering what happened with the class in the Chump Series. I suspect the fact there's at least two series which more-or-less cover the same ground made the notion non-viable; and I somehow doubt Mr. Chisek is interested in starting another series when he already has one circus, and one tribe of monkeys, to deal with. (Hmm -- maybe someone with more stroke could approach GASS's owner about franchise opportunities.... )
