VIR 24hr Pit & Parking Lot Lighting

It was an around the clock race and not having VIR's dozen pit lane lights and 20 parking lot lights not turned on for 10hrs during the night was dumbfounding

I would of liked to watch my earbuds float down pit lane 50ft during the 1am-4am monsoon

was it because it would interfere with drivers eyesight or because of money to turn them on for 10hrs

Probably had a lot to do with VIR itself being out of power from the municipality.

Their 240v service went down about 11 AM saturday, and about 50% of their 110 service was offline as well due to one of the phases being down.

But despite that, Chumpcar and VIR were able to get Timing & Scoring and Flagging's repeater and communications devices operational so we could race with no delay.

but yes, we are sorry about your ear buds.......

Yes the electrical problems were large the whole place was affected .  Dana ,Ben and Mike were scrambling to get the essentials together .. if it wasn't for Bill Strong breaking out his generator and running power up stairs it would have been impossible. .  Even the rescue squad was plugged into it for some time ..there were extention cords run everywhere but the parking lot ..  The race started on time and never lost a beat but it was only by the extreme effort by some very smart people .

From the supplemental rules:

Lighting:  The pit lane has very limited lighting and minimal pit/paddock area lighting.  Be advised that ambient lighting may not be sufficient for fueling or mechanical repairs.  Therefore teams are advised to consider alternate power and lighting sources.

It was too hot for me to unload my generator at home before we left for VIR. I am really glad we were able to get power for the event.

What pissed me off the most was that I spent 5-hours getting the show set up on the computer. The first brownout blew all that work away. I forgot the UPS.
