Administrators Bill Strong Posted September 6, 2017 Administrators Report Share Posted September 6, 2017 East Coast and South Florida racers! This is a call to assist South Florida racers and families. I just spoke with Dana Morrison, and asked him how we could assist. His reply - Right now hope the storm takes a track offshore. If anyone is evacuating they might have trouble finding places to stay. Anyone who has a spare bed, or a place where someone can park a trailer for a few days might be welcome news to people on the move. Bill Strong - I am a bit further north in central Virginia, north or VIR. we have plenty of room for trailers. No hotels local to us though. I know we are still awaiting where the models are going to send the storm, bb it we can start getting Florida residents some options. This is one hell of Dangerous storm. Let's help these folks out.

Justin9
Speedway Creations is located in Quitman, GA, we are 15 miles west of Valdosta which is the first city in Georgia as you ride up I-75. If people need something in this area, please feel free to let me know. I am the County Manager here, the County IT guy, the County Assistant Fire Chief, and whatever else tends to happen, so if you need a place to park an RV or race car, or just need a connect, feel free to reach out either through the forum or email at justin@justindevane.com, you can text me 229-563-5238 (please text, I don't answer unknown numbers). If push comes to shove, you can even call the County office, 229-263-5561 and tell them you are with ChumpCar and you need Justin. Even if its directions or a bite to eat, whatever. We still have food and gas in this year, but I suspect that tomorrow it will get a little more real around here for people. I know most of all the hotels are full between the state line to Macon and I'm sure its worst past that... So if you are coming from the deep south of FL and can't make it the extra 4/5/6 hours north to AMS or AMP, let me know, I will try to help. Justin9
I can also report that gas prices in this area were about 2.70 a gallon Tuesday, I didn't notice what it was today. Also, don't bother with WalMart gas stations, they buy gas on the spot market, they do not have contracts, therefore they will be the first to run out, as they have the lowest refill priority. UMDgrad
I'm just north of Charlotte (Denver, NC) and my little neighborhood of 10 homes has a lot across the street that could take 2-3 trailers. Can't imagine hotels would be a problem nearby. terryken@hotmail.com
DuncanDana
Thanks for taking this up Bill. I know there are several of us that live right here under the center of the cone. I know Ed from Team Infiniti lives just south of me, and Elon from Eracing is down there in Palm Beach also. Paul from JB Bugs is in the next town up, and of course my old team, Treasure Coast Miata is right in the neighborhood. This thing isn't looking good for any of us so please keep your fingers crossed for us. Dana

Guest E. Tyler Pedersen
Looks like this just missed Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Checked with resorts and no physical damage; just a tree down. Looks like I will still be able to fly out next Wednesday for our honeymoon. I'll pray for everyone in Cuba, Bahamas, Keys and Florida mainland until then.

Justin9
My community is now in a bad position... where we are we have never really dealt with anything strong than a good TS.. so many folks here are not taking it seriously... We are now in a path where the storm is coming right for us, and the longer it stays on the gulf the worst the impact will be in our area. I will be out in the storm for the duration as County Manager and firefighter. Last year it was pretty wild with what we got... this is the first time i have ever seen anyone in our town board up anything.. . hell, I have never even bother picking up stuff in my yard... I am very concerned that I will lose the metal roof on my shop, there are a few panels that were already loose... I actually tarped the new camaro, which is inside the building... i spent three hours rebuilding carbs for generators this morning, but everything is running now. I would imagine no power in our area for at least 48 hours.... probably longer... To friends in South Florida... good luck... As stupid as it sounds I have had a lot of success with screw in auger anchors in the ground with ratchet straps slung over the rafters. The "secret" (if there is one) is to not let the wind get so much as a toehold or it will peel it like a banana. Corners are the biggest weakness.... Anyway Brother, be safe out there...

I don't think that would work with my place, it is over 3,000 sq ft and is block and tin roof construction. When we had the floors drilled for the lift, it was one hell of a job I was glad I didn't do. It was built in three sections and so it has basically three different roofs that all tie into each other. So like you Montana, no real experience with hurricanes, but yes to tornadoes... I would say the big problem here is the lack of boards... cover those windows, and that garage door... I know for tornadoes, once the garage door yields, the roof is gone... and they are the weak spot by far... The other thing is anything loose needs to be tied down, boats, picnick tables, chairs, etc... if its not bolted down, it should be tied to something that is... amazing what a lawn chair can do to anything at 2/3 the wind speed. I mean a couple of straps "could help" but in reality not as much as the proper hurricane clips on the rafters during construction or renovation.
Philippe
I hope everybody is fine! It wasn't the most enjoyable weekend, but it could have been so much worst! Team Jacky Ickx has survived! Let's hope Sebring is fine too!
