2018 rules are posted... debate away.

- National championship race will be qualified for in the prior calendar year. Each race will give points (1st  place gets 1 point, 2nd 2 points, etc.) lowest 75 teams based on point totals (minimum 2 races, best 2 races count) qualify for the championship.

- winner of the championship points total (total from 2 races plus the points from the championship race) gets the super trophy, so it might not be the winner of the race.

- this builds in a bit of an incentive to run lesser attended events if you really care about qualifying

Not much else changed.

Heim joints are 5 points per pair now, it used to be 5 points each.

That's a typo and I honestly have no idea how it happened.  There are no changes to section 3&4.  I'll get it fixed and republished.

Thanks for getting these rules out early.

In 2016 I would have had 8 points.  2017 was not good due to only two races and breakage.

Are we going to have a page that keeps track of the points for everyone?  It would give our broadcasters lots to talk about during the live events!

So if a team went to a double 7 and finished 2nd and 3rd, then did poorly at another event, they would have 5 points?  Am I reading this right?

Thank you for highlighting changes in red. Two things I noticed.

1. No more number panel light requirement for night races, I assume the reflective units from RVA will suffice, yes?

2. The number panel orientation on the roof is flipped for 2018:

2017: toward passenger side

2018: toward driver side

I noticed that roof panel flip too.  Will we be permitted to run panels in the old orientation or will we have to purchase new panels and overlay them?  I literally mounted our new panels last week.

you old panels will be good.

I have uploaded the rules again with the fixed items from Mike,  but I added some extra pages. I have added tech sheets, how to mount your transponder, and the protest form.

I want everything a team needs to race in one easy download.

You may also notice the number panels being a different design for 2018. Your existing panels are good, so don't worry about having to buy new ones for 2018.

As they get tore up or weather, you will just get the new smaller style.

Great!  Thanks for the clarification

Both good things, as I was just fixing to order the lights and work on the getting graphics setup...  i did however buy led light strips to line my numbers...

[edit]

We may need a clarification on what an "event" is. In some parts of the rulebook it refers to a whole weekend regardless of race format, and in others it is used in reference to individual races.

Yes.  I'll be posting those once rob gets back from Indy. We want them going up at the same time...

Roof numbers...

I'll talk to mike. I made the Art work and did not think about orientation.  My bad.

Hold off for A day or two. I'll get it sorted.

Thanks Ron....

:P

Better than showing up at a race and taking a lap if you were thinking you were at 500 points exactly.  No matter to me, we are now 410 points with our Explorer swap... now what to go spend points on that doesn't consume more gas?

When do the rules take effect?  Jan 01?

This is a pretty significant rule change for some people...  Any explanation?  With racing costs going up (Per hr cost / entry fees are creeping up in 2018), any little bit helps.

1.4.4.2.1. For events 19-hours or longer: First Place $1,000, Second Place $800, Third Place $500, Fourth Place $300, and Fifth Place $200. Total $2,300.

1.4.4.2.2. For events between 11- and 18-hours: First Place $800, Second Place $500, Third Place $300, and Fourth Place $200. Total $1,600.

1.4.4.2.3. For events 10-hours or less: First Place $600, Second Place $400, and Third Place $200. Total $1,200 (Total $2,400 for a Double-7 weekend).

I saw this as well and was wondering the same thing.   Registration has gone up across the board for 2018.  Why are payouts going down?

What issues and changes require a BOD meeting and vote and which don't?  I confirmed with Mike yesterday that there has not been one.

Was thinking about this, my initial reaction was "oh bummer we might miss out on some race credits".   Then I looked at it closer.

Events 19 hours and longer,  we won't like do any of the three 24 hour races and it only reduces race credit pay out to all of chump by $1500 (500 per race)

Between 11 and 18 hours, we might do one but right now we are not planning one of the 14's   Right now I count 6 races from 11 to 18 hours so $1200 reduction to competitors

No change to the less than 10 hour races

So my count is 2700 bucks less in race credits to the entire field of teams across the country.   Is my math right?  Still working on the mornings coffee.   Not as big an impact as I originally thought.

I'm guessing costs are going up in every aspect of putting on these incredible races.   Ha here's another cost saving tip for management....keep track of anyone thats ever said 2nd is first looser and don't give them any race credits unless they win.  They are just another looser.   Hmm just enough coffee for sarcasm.............
