PSS vs 'typical chumpcar tire'

On a 3,000+ pound car we were overheating and chunking PSS even though they were 40mm wider than the Direzzas were using on the same day. Was a pretty fast car on a track that's relatively hard on tires, but I don't think the PSS compound is appropriate for endurance racing. Autocross or sprints would be fine, they felt good until they got too hot.
