tifosi360
Good day ChampCar/iRacing fans. There has been some discussion about making custom liveries for the cars in iRacing. I thought I would put together a short 'how to' post to help make things easier. Before you get started making badass liveries, we need to touch on a few basic things. First, you need the .PSD file for the cars you want paint. You have 2 choices: You can download the .PSD that I've prepped with the ChampCar logos: Global Mazda MX5 2016 Street Stock You can get them from the iRacing website by following these steps: From the iRacing menu bar, hover over 'Account'. Once the dropdown list appears, hover over 'Customize paint schemes'. Once the next dropdown list appears, click on 'Customize cars'. You are now on the custmize car page. From here, choose the car you wish to make a livery for. Once selected, click the 'download car template' button which should be just above the car you selected. This will start the download of the zipped .PSD file. Second, you'll need a program which will open the .PSD file. There are 2 popular choices. Photoshop: I use a totally legit copy. GIMP: It's free. I don't use it myself, but it works very similar to Photoshop. Here is a thread in the iRacing forums about working with GIMP. Third, you willl need to register and setup Trading paints. This is the 3rd party software that allows the upload of the livery. Without it, your livery would not be seen and you will not see other driver's liveries. Once you have these 3 things, you can start creating your livery. Honestly, there is not much more I can explain that is not already described in these 2 posts from the iRacing forums: Using custom paints and seeing them online How to create custom paints I can give a few small tips: One of the first things I usually do is paint different sections of the car with different colours. I then load up the car and see how they all fit together. This way you can place your logos/colours where you want. If you're using the .PSD files i've provided, create your livery within the 'Your livery' folder. Try using one of the iracing templates in the 'Car patterns' folder. Swap out the colours and these usually are great base start for a livery. Go crazy and be inventive! Feel free to ask any questions. Let me know if you want me to expand on anything here. Cheers. 2
Rapido
Thanks Travis! Adding trading paints definitely adds to the enjoyment I have of iRacing, as it enables you to see and display more detailed and idiosyncratic liveries. Our team has had fun translating our real life paint scheme to the virtual Miata; although it's a different vintage of car the resemblance is still close enough to enjoy practicing for future Champcar events: https://imgur.com/a/55Hwf

n0m4d
@tifosi360 Any plans for a .PSD of the 2015 Mazda Cup that is prepped with the ChampCar logos? I'm starting to goof around with making a livery for 2019 and didn't want to reinvent the wheel.

But I created a PSD with some Champcar logos for you to use! You can find it here: 2015 Mazda If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message, I do a lot of racing paints. 1

I just finished my first paint, pretty happy with it. I wanted something that matched my company's branded NASCAR. Not sure what the orange stripe on the rear bumper means. I assume its a placeholder for something.

Red is rookie, Orange is D class, Yellow is C class, Green is B Class, Blue is A Class.
AFawcett
The latest iRacing build has changed the way paints appear on cars. Now the standard contingency stickers and logos aren't stamped on the cars by default. In response to this I've updated the PSD as well as created a PNG with new Champcar number plates and Champcar sponsor logos. The PNG can be dropped into your paints, or you can use the updated PSD to create them. Feel free to ask me any questions, it's kinda confusing! Happy painting!
