2018 ChampCar Sim Series - Round 1, Practice Race 3 - Road Atlanta - 1/18/2018

Time for the final practice race of Round 1. To continue to shake things up, the weather this time will be warmer than the iRacing defaults, giving less grip on track and forcing more caution in cornering speed. Additionally, as per the suggestion of @Wyatt last week, we will only have one fast repair available in the race itself, so if you wreck on lap 1 you'll have to be mighty careful for the remaining 43 minutes. I won't be able to compete this week, but let me know if any questions in this thread and I look forward to seeing everyone next week for the big Round 1.

Session Details

  • Date: Thursday, 18-January-2018
  • Practice Start: 6:00pm EST
  • Qualifying Start: 8:00pm EST
  • Race Start: 9:15pm EST
  • Cars: Street Stock, 2016 Global Mazda Cup
  • Track: Road Atlanta Full
  • Weather: Warm (Afternoon, Partly Cloudy, 81°F, 64% humidity)
  • Setup: Fixed, Baseline with reduced fuel (Miata), Modified Baseline (Street Stock)

Mucho fun tonight.

I am pleased that I was able to not F up in this one.  No rearranging walls, minimal lawn trimming and no stupid self-inflicted running out of talent contact with anyone.   Sorry for still pogo-ing around the track, hopefully that didn't mess with anyone's race.  That should be fixed for next week :)

I think Wyatt's mother was abducted by aliens at some point, or maybe he took a driving class in one of those flying saucers himself.  Gotta be some alien running through his veins - so wickedly fast!

I was in 3rd place when I pitted, but learned a VERY valuable rule. On my way out of the pits, I started to accelerate at the end and accidentally hit 46 mph just before the end... resulting in a 15 second Black flag. Grrr!!!

Then when I came in to serve the 15 seconds, they serviced my car? If this happens again, how do I just serve the time without them servicing the car also?

You'll need to visit the black boxes for fuel and tires and uncheck the boxes for fuel and changing tires. They automatically reset to checked after the stop.

I don't know if it matters all that much but you can change your name so it displays your Forum name in the results rather than your real name.

I know a few of you by your real name, but most of you by your Forum name.

Anyway, I'm still trying to put everybody's name together with your teams for the ChampCar Live broadcasts.

Had fun last night. No incidents...only 1 2 off that I can recall. No wonder I'm so slow...

Thanks for the response so quickly, I've read about this black box, but not sure where to access it? Is it something I can do live while driving with the Oculus on, or will I need to remove the Oculus?

I'd recommend binding something to your wheel.  I have the bottom button on each side of my G27 as the left/right change between boxes.  It's easy to scroll through them that way.

Yeah, I did that , works great to toggle, but I not see 2 boxes. One has lap times and the other has position, I think. How do I get the other box that controls tires and fuel? Before clicking"test" I clicked garage, and options but don't see any other options to click for that black box..

Default key bindings for the fuel window and tire selection are F4 and F5, respectively. You'll access these while in the car.  When I get back to my PC, I'll take some screenshots for my key bindings if you'd like.

Ok, thanks. Yeah I'd like to see if I can change the key binding to a button on the g27. Otherwise I'll have to remove the Oculus in order to find the f4 / f5 key or set up something on the keyboard on those keys to make them easy to find while the Oculus is on ... Like brail

Actually my father is a resident alien. He's Canadian.

My mother would want the credit though. Haha!

Hate I missed last nights event!

For Oculus users I highly recommend Voice Attack.  There are a number of macros that you can tie to it.  In my case I can say the word "clear" and all pitbox items are cleared.  I can say "fuel one" and it adds 1 gallon of fuel etc.

Takes ten minutes to setup.

Also Kutu apps has a good fuel calculator to use while in game.

@Wyatt is definitely a fast iracing competitor!

This sounds like something I will definitely have to look into . I'll go see if I can find a YouTube video about it
