Chummy
Hey all, Is the time sitting during a red flag considered time driving or not? Thanks
Technical Advisory Committee mcoppola Posted January 18, 2018 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted January 18, 2018 Yes, as do pit stops for minor repairs when the driver is sitting in the car. Timing and scoring uses 2 hour intervals between driver change pit stops as the basis for the 2 hour stint time limit. You do not get additional seat time because you happened to sit in Black Flag, or the pits for repairs.

Black Magic
On exception i have used, the track went red while i was on pit road during a driver change. My driving time did not start until i left pit out after the track went yellow.
Team Infiniti
Somewhere along the line, I believe there was something stated that "if the red flag was more than 30 minutes" Anyone care to weigh in on the old rule?

Thanks for the quick response Sorry, I may have misspoke in my post above. I was referring to Black flag (not Red), and pit stops. 15 minutes ago, Team Infiniti said: Somewhere along the line, I believe there was something stated that "if the red flag was more than 30 minutes" Anyone care to weigh in on the old rule? Interesting possibility. I don't have copies of previous year's rules here at work... Even if it was in the old rules, does it still apply? Unfortunately, as is the case for many interpretations, we might need input from Mike @chisek or Phil @Mopar 63 for this answer.
Chummy
Exactly. I thought at Homestead a couple years ago the red flag due to fog wasn't being considered drive time...
Team Infiniti
Correct, it was an extended time where people were ordered out of their cars, not consider driving
Chummy
Thanks Ed. Do you know what the circumstances were for the red flags at Road Atlanta last year?
Team Infiniti
I do not, saying that, not sure how it would be handled for a renter...

wvumtnbkr
There was a race with a red flag longer than 60 minutes. The drivers stint time was reset.

If a Red flag goes over 30 minutes, we will announce to all teams that the driving stint time has reset. Inside of 30 minutes, the time is counting against your 2 hour stint time. Not using up brakes, fuel or tires so doesn't make sense charging them for it. The only thing I want my driver and the race staff thinking about is the car and driver that caused the red flag.
