First time to Watkins Glenn: Camp or Hotel?

Recommended Posts

This will be our teams first trip to the glenn. Is it best to stay at the track? We would be in tents. Or should we get a hotel for comfort? What hotels are good to check out? Are they close to the track?

Would love some input to make my accommodations planning easier. Thank you. planning easier. Thank you.

Edit: I've been told camping actually has been allowed.

I don't think they allow camping at The Glen.  There are a lot of state parks nearby though.  If you like to party and don't need five start accommodations then the Seneca Lodge is the place to be.  Otherwise just find a local hotel or airbnb.

Everyone always raves about staying at Seneca lodge.

I stayed at a hotel 35 min away from the track and had to drive on a gravel road for 20 miles. Since I had a rental car it got a bit crazy, animals were injured in the making of that faux rally :(

WGI has added showers all over the place. WE camped at the state park last time but will stay at the track from now on.

Do you know if they will allow camping this year?  In the past it was RV only.

My team camped there once.   There are a couple of smaller tent camping areas available.  It was frigid.  Very frigid.  Middle of summer, no problem, but near edges of the warm season you'd likely have a better experience staying somewhere with heat.

There are a number of AirBNB places around there as well.  Last time we ran at the Glen, we snagged a really nice house that was just up the hill from downtown with easy access to great food, breweries and quick drive to the track.  Asa bonus, it was a chunk cheaper than hotels.

Love the Seneca Lodge, my favorite place to stumble back to in all the tracks of the Americas!  This year i got a room under the restaurant, easier than ever!

I think it's a tie between Siebkens

Clementines in south haven is great.....

I like the place on the corner. Last time I went to Clementines it was pretty stuffy and not my style. This other place had Goose Island Bourbon Stout on tap and it has some delicious food.

We always hit Black River Tavern, cheap beer and good bar food, a block west of Clementines.

Reserved my room at the Seneca Lodge. What are some other places to check out while in town?

There is a good BBQ place in town that we always go to along with the pizza place/Italian place. The Lodge is good for dinner. Avoid the Mexican place in the house. The worst service I have had. If you have some extra days the state park is a must see. I'll be there this year as well so that's all that matters :)

Glen Mountain Bakery and Deli has good breakfast and lunch options. Try to order ahead if possible, they are not very quick.

Watkins Glen State park if you have time.

Families/Spouses/Children would enjoy Corning Museum of Glass if not at the track. Plenty of wineries for those 21+.

Corning and Ithaca have the best food options if willing to travel 30 minutes or so.
