Track amenities for a 24 hour race?

Recommended Posts

If you had a vote in what amenities would be available at a summer time 24 hour race, what would you like?

1) Food on site 24 hours

2) Fuel on site

3) Power in the pits

4) Pit/paddock lighting

5) wifi

* your ideas here *

6) ice

7) RV hookups

8) garages

I am assuming there would be working showers and flushing toilets.

Unless you get stuck behind the barn. Two years in a row. And it rains. And all the water runs downhill and creates a pond in 1 of the 3 pit stalls where you happen to be pitted. And there is no power there. And the power in the paddock is limited to those spaces close to RV hookups.

But yeah, VIR is pretty awesome. We got a full upper esses suite again this year along with an additional lower suite for some of our drivers. Looking forward to the 24 hour race in August.

VIR is the best for a 24hr event.

Sebring would be better.

Big hotel. Onsite fuel. Onsite food. Much closer offsite fuel, much closer offsite food, drink, etc.. Much larger selection of offsite (and less expensive) lodging.

MUCH, MUCH better pits (power, lighting, garages for each), much better paddock. And anywhere from October through March would be a window for great racing weather.

So VIR is pretty decent, but it's not "the best" unless it's simply comparing to Nelson Ledges.

And let's not even compare track lighting at night.

it's funny to me...our only race that was of this length...36 hour to be exact in 2013 on July 4th weekend (summer)...had almost none of these (fuel on site was only thing-but expensive)...any of these would have made it a little more human for sure...

Why is fuel such a big deal to so many people?  Don't yall have access to 55gallon drums?  We fuel up Friday after dinner and are good for the weekend.

It's a big deal for me. Since my team consists of my Dad and I, if I am on the track driving and my dad has to go get fuel, or even refill jugs from a drum I can't pit, I have nobody on the radio, nobody to change a tire etc.

Now I pretty much just arrive and drive for a few teams.

Personally have a paved spot to work on the car would be really great, so garages would be nice but just a clean spot to work on.  I've changed a transmission in the mud at NL, was not fun (but memorable).  Otherwise, I would emphasize power in the pits and paddock,  then food, then lighting.
