Big one at Road Atlanta...AER Wreck

Recommended Posts

Don't know if anyone kept up with the AER race at Road Atlanta.  They had a two day event and Sunday morning they had a pretty big wreck coming out of 5 on the first lap sunday.  Hate to see it happen to those cars and drivers, hope everyone involved makes a quick recovery.

What...you don't race to the yellow???

Driver of the car that spun has a few broken ribs and a sore neck.  Not bad for getting T-boned at 80mph

Could have been worse

Is there a discussion thread with pics somewhere where we can see, what or if, something could have  been done to have a different outcome?

I think most of it has been just on facebook.  I couldn't find an AER forum in my limited searching.  From what I understand and saw in another video, the driver of the car that spun attempted to give the driver on his left rear some room and just barely touched the gator at the top of the hill and the car rotated directly right and went into the tires on the right side wall.  The bounce from the tires put his car back out on track.  He attempted to make it back off the track but by that time, two cars came barreling up the hill and he got hit by the second one.

That sucks,I know its a touchy subject when there is injury but...... I am one that is interested in car cam of the t boned or interior pics to forensically discuss better safety options i.e. personal safety gear working as designed, type/installation of seat and belts,  cage design, etc.

Looks like I may have to finally sign up for the face books <_<
