Racequip gear

I run a racequip suit.  No complaints but it is heavy and hot.  I do a few races in the far southeast, so its hot.  I'm looking to spend way more for a lighter and better breathing suit.  I'll keep the racequip for Road Atlanta in February to stay warm and as a fueling suit for the rest of the races.

Thanks guys!

I'll look at Pyrotect as well.

Shawn,

I am an avionics guy by trade. I am hoping to be able to do my own radio setups. I looked at your site and it's great to see what you guys have especially at prices that rival the "big two".

@VegasNick or anyone else looking at radio systems:

Do yourself a favor and push the easy button - get one of @Shawn Sampson 's basic 5 watt digital systems that are now on sale.

https://www.sampsonracing.com/Digital-Starter-5watt-Package-for-2way-complete-p/digital-starter-package.htm

We did a lot of research before buying, and figured that a good digital system was out of reach price-wise for us. But, we were lucky enough to snag one of the 4 systems that Sampson brought to Laguna Seca last year. They only sold 3 at the race, and Shawn offered up the 4th set to the 1st taker through a forum ad here.

Even before we used the system, one of Shawn's guys, Ben, called to discuss frequencies, future system expansion (antennas, digital  mobile units for the car instead of handheld, etc.)

Ben spent 20 minutes on the phone patiently answering all my questions. (And yes, Ben called me - before I even tried to make contact!)

I'm happy to say that when we used the system at Mid Ohio and at Road America last Fall, we had absolutely no issues with comms at either venue,  just using the ducky antennas that come on the handheld units. The radios themselves are tiny, which is nice when they're hanging off your belt/pocket, etc. One of my SCCA buds that ran RA with us looked at them as if they were toys, and insisted on bringing his radios in case we had reception issues. During Friday practice, we verified good comms all over the track, and he put his stuff back in the truck.

I can't say enough good things about Shawn's product quality, and his support and tips here on the forum from time to time. And as I said above, the customer service is 2nd to none. I'm confident that this system will work anywhere, and if it doesn't, we have the option to upgrade the antennas to do so.

If you are considering a Racequip suit look a little deeper and consider a custom suit from Trackside Tim. The suits are well made and you can get them from 100% Nomex and fully custom fitted to you for about what you pay for a premium off the rack suit. We did an order for our team, you can see from this picture that we had some odd shapes to fit and everyone’s suit ended up fitting perfect, they have been sewing race suits in South Carolina for decades so they know what they are doing.

Agreed, highly recommend NOT running the RaceQuip snowmobile suit, even at $99 you won't be satisfied.  Try the entry level from brands like Sparco and Alipinestars.  The Alpinestars Knoxville is $399 less the ChampCar discount from Discovery Parts and is FAR superior to the RaceQuip.  Alternatively, check out Race Image for ex-Nascar and IMSA crew gear .. you can get something for around $200 on the low end.
