Replacement Pistons

Recommended Posts

Say I bought a replacement engine that "ran when parked" and magically it needs new pistons before ever running it.  I assume the rule is replacement pistons must be as what you'd expect from the make/model/engine when purchased originally.  No swaps from other models, no change in construction (forged vs. cast), no JDM equivalent, etc.  It doesn't specifically say in the rules (unless I missed it), but there are no freebies for swapping parts, so what can I expect in the way of points if I were to run something non-stock?

Its in there;

4.7.6. Teams may replace any worn, broken, ventilated, impaled, defective, or bent-beyond-all- recognition parts on their car without affecting their total points so long as it’s an OEM or OEM- equivalent part for that car’s specific model

I did miss it!

Thanks, looks like we'll be replacing broken garbage with fresh garbage!

I had the same thoughts about replacement pistons, and had a phone conversation with Mike Chisek.

I asked if there would be points assigned to running forged replacement pistons, or higher compression pistons. He told me exactly the same thing Phil just posted. Basically, stock means stock as it came from the factory.
