Do you remember the first and only National Championship? It was at Iowa Speedway. Well six years later we’ve brought the National Championship back and it’s on the exciting National Corvette Museum road course. Read on to get some information to make your trip to Bowling Green a little easier. Gates – Gates open at Noon on Thursday. Test Day – NCM is hosting a test day on Friday for teams to sort out their car and learn the track. Details, cost and registration can be found here – https://www.motorsportreg.com/events/ncm-test-day-champcar-grand-full-motorsport-park-motorsports-940875 Paddock – The paddock at NCM is plenty large and is unassigned (first come, first served). Most people will not be able to park near their pit spot so don’t be surprised. If you rented a garage, your parking spot is marked by white lines in front of your garage. Camping – If you would like to tent camp or camp in your RV off your own generator, there is no charge. RV spots are available with power and water, but there are a limited number of them. Contact NCM to reserve one. Tech – If you have not had your 2018 annual tech yet, bring your car through the tech bay garage (A/B) when you arrive. Bring all your paperwork filled out. Make sure you have read the rules (good news – no changes from 2017). Swap cars with no paperwork will likely be put in EC unless tech is in a good mood. Registration – Make sure to tech first, then bring your yellow logbook and tech sheet signed by us directly to registration. Before you arrive, log in and check your driver roster for accuracy. Make any corrections ahead of time. If you are paid with the correct drivers, check-in is a 3-minute process. If you are not coming (work issue, car issue, etc), email me to let me know you will not be there. Novice School – 5pm Friday, location TBD. Pit Assignments – Here are your pit assignments. Garage Assignments – Here are your garage assignments. Board Meeting – Should you arrive early and would like something to do that does not involve looking at old Corvettes, you can sit in on the 2018 club Board meeting that is being held in the Holley scoring tower classroom at 7pm Thursday night. Saturday Night – This event is a Park Ferme (click here to read those instructions), which is to say the race is red flagged Saturday night. Since all cars will be locked on pit road and no work allowed, you might as well eat. ChampCar is providing dinner in the paddock to all teams Saturday night, free of charge. Drinks you’ll have to buy. Finally – 75 teams qualified and were invited to this year’s National Championship. Of those 75, 24 registered for the event. While we have 60 cars racing in this one, only 24 have a chance to win the National Championship trophy. Here are those 24 teams. The Champion will be the team with the lowest point total of the three listed races, two of which have already been recorded. It is possible that the Champion may not be the team who wins the NCM event, but given how tight the points are, that seems unlikely. A reminder: read through and print out the Supplemental Rules for this event here. If you have any questions about registration, please contact Katherine Miller here. Any other questions you can contact me here. We’re looking forward to seeing you all in Bowling Green! The ChampCar Staff

It's not something that I would have thought of if I had been selecting the date (I would have to buy 4 plane tickets to take my Dad to lunch), but it is something my team pointed out to me once we got into the discussion of whether or not we are going. Father’s Day?! It boggles my mind that people won’t schedule such things for a different weekend. Weekends per year that you can race the NCM championship: 1 Weekends per year that you can hang out with dad: 51 Pick one!!! Same goes for a comment I read about being in hot water for a race on Mother’s Day weekend. And birthdays for small children. A 1 yr old doesn’t even know the day of the week... or the month... schedule that party for a different weekend. end rant. 6 2

Regarding the lack of entries: 1) Unfortunately, I think I've seen comments similar to this^^^ from other teams, regarding their chances of winning the national championship. I haven't even studied all the math some guys have posted, as we, like many teams, aren't even qualified, or are far down the list on points. 2) The WGI and Nelson 24 races have large draws that are going to affect NCM's entry numbers. 3) Fathers Day - I agree with @enginerd here - take your dad to the races. Or if you're like me, who's already lost his dad, it's not a big deal if my kids and wife celebrate that particular day with me - we'll do it some other time... 4) It will be interesting to see if the field fills up now that it's March 14th, and the "also rans" are able to sign up. tommytipover
Playing devils advocate here. Is parc ferme defined anywhere in the BCCS or the Supps? Can a team opt out of parc ferme, take a penalty, and still start the next day?

Can a team opt out of parc ferme, take a penalty, and still start the next day? In a previous 'parc ferme' race that I was at, teams had the option of working on the car overnight, but it resulted in a bump to EC class. I thought this was absurd and a better course of action would be to apply penalty laps equal to ~1 hour of track time. This would do 2 things: 1) Would not clutter the EC class full of cars which definitely aren't EC cars (EC is for cars which greatly exceed 500 points, it should not be a 'catch all' penalty class) 2) It would take teams who work on the cars overnight out of contention for podium (nobody is going to come back from the equivalent of a 1 hour penalty) There was a petition relating to parc ferme format, I am including these points in my response to the board. But to answer your question, yes, you can opt out, you will get penalized in some (currently unspecified) way.

That's when I realized there are no rules for parc ferme Looks like we need to get all the secret rules into the BCCS before we worry too much about changing them. hotrod
I think they should limit the entries to ten therefore it's now full! Lot's of events are scheduled on Fathers day we raced in Portland many times to a full house. I've scheduled car shows on fathers day, Bring Back The 50's in Minnesota will have 13,000 to 15,000 show cars entered on Fathers day. I don't see it a distraction. Now try & plan something on Mothers Day..............That's Suicide! As far as not going because you don't have a chance to win the Championship? How many weekends do you think you have a chance to make the podium? We're also going to do Watkins Glen before NCM, granted two weekends apart but a lot more travel time involved. We also have a second car in the works which will be at Gingerman, meaning that we will be doing many more races next year. if we don't support Champcar by participating all we'll have left is a forum's page..................
Technical Advisory Committee mcoppola Posted March 15, 2018 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted March 15, 2018 I have a commitment Friday night with my wife that weekend that wil prevent us from entering this race. 😞 We would have entered otherwise. I'm still toying with the idea of driving down Saturday morning, so I can hang out with y'all at the national championship race. enginerd
I am interested to see if the structure changes for next year. Season points + points from championship race seems like a fine way to do it. Winner of the championship race (from the pool of all qualified teams) also seems like a good way to determine national champion. If a lot of people think like @wvumtnbkr, then the latter format would draw more teams. I'm eager to see how many of the qualified teams are present in June.
