Decal Requirements

Recommended Posts

So we just had a discussion about cleaning up our decals and I've become a bit confused on what is required and what is not.  So looking at RVA's website, they show the decal package and it does not include the Maxxis sticker, but the BCCR shows the Maxxis sticker.  Is the Maxxis sticker required to be on the car?

The media guy?

That's not how this is supposed to work.

What's your weapon of enforcement?

Non entry to the racing surface at Green flag should do it .. our sponsors have made a deal to promote their product we need to show them correctly to hold up our end of the deal ..  that should not be hard to do  ..  Bill is the media guy isn't that directly tied to promotion ?

Sorry.  I'll change it to green font.  I was just continuing to pile on Bill.

Thanks Mike.

So yes. This falls under my domain.

I hope if we slip into victory lane again one day that Big Bill Strong will be there to throw the ChampCar towel on my shoulder and the 15 sponsor hats on my head for the photo ops...

The gear check stickers will be there to apply when all driver gear is approved. .  But if ya want to slap a blue ChampCar sticker on come to the car tech line and I'll hook you up ..

So this wasn't being enforced until now? Every Paint job we have been reapplying/re-positioning stickers all these year for nothing? :P

Just a thought..can we get decals that are a tad better? as Much as we change these things it'd be nice to get a nice quality decal that can be removed easily w/o pealing the paint off. On our new build the large "Champ/# panel and "decal set panel" will be put on something then taped to the car. Might use a magnet sheet for the rest.

The challenge is choosing a material that stays put in 100+mph rain, but doesn't pull the paint off when removing.  As such, we chose a 3M material that has decent adhesion, but is classified as temporary, therefore less likely to pull paint off , etc.

If they are applied to a clean/dry factory finish, they will stay on during the races, but can be removed after the season without pulling paint.  If they are put on over a rattle-can or a paint roller paint job, then they can/will remove some paint when removed, we found our the hard way on our car when we first decided to wrap it. Those hours  I spent applying Rustoleum were for naught as that paint pulled right off when affixing decals.   Also if the decals are hastily applied last minute in the rain to make the drop of the green flag, they tend not to do as well.

I am intrigued by the magnetic board suggestion, but I would hate to be black flagged if my number panel fell off.  Maybe we could try some during the next race(s) along with the standard panels and see how they do.

I'm not sure if yall cut the Maxxis decals, or if Maxxis themselves provides them, but they are absolutely terrible. The amount of left over adhesive, after removal, was insane and a huge pain to get off.
