Major changes since 2014?

Recommended Posts

Last time we competed with our mk3 vw golf was in 2014 at NCM. We had the seat back brace and fire suppression system that was required. Has anything else changed since then to get up to date for 2018? Plus our optima battery is shot. Are they still a sponsor and giving out batteries?

With coming back to ohio, we might be getting back into the game ;)

Hey 87 come on there have been a few changes a review of the current rules will bring you up to date . Mostly battery must be mounted with steel brackets and if it is in the driver's compartment must be in an enclosed box . Make sure your seatbelts and window net are in date , 4 years . Check and make sure your cage welds are 360% everywhere . NCM will be a great event don't miss it !!!! .

Make sure that your door bars meet the current rules too.  Need two continuous (unbroken) bars.  That clarification was made last year and the rule book was updated to reflect it.

I t hought you had to have that in 2014? We built our car to those specs...well we went w/ "Nascar" bars on drivers side, but the pass is '014...

You may be right but our team was building a car in 2016 and we didn't interpret it that way.  We had the cage built with "X" style door bars with one of the diagonals continuous and the other broken where they intersect.  Then we saw a forum post where Phil said that was not legal.  A bunch of people chimed in as usual and it became enough of an issue that they revised the BCCR.  We just added a sill bar so now we have two continuous and one broken.  We gained some rollover protection in the process.

See this thread for more info.  https://forum.champcar.org/topic/16098-2017-bccr-rule-change-102/?tab=comments#comment-330589

From Bill Strong: "2017 BCCR has been updated with two changes. Review page two for the changes. Big note that may affect some cars - Drivers side door bar rule change."
