HELP! At the glen and e30 is acting up.

Recommended Posts

Last year at Pittsburg half way through Saturday my buddies e30 started shutting off every few laps and not restarting untill it cooled off. Trouble shot the issue and thought we fixed some electrical issues Saturday night. Sunday the car went three laps, shut down and never restarted that day.

Over winter they put in a new harness and a haltech ecu. Went to a fuel cell as well. Had the car tuned and thought it was ready to go.

Today in practice the car only Makes it 3 laps before dying. After a few seconds the car will restart and run fine back to the pits.

Anyone have any ideas??

Crank sensor? Fuel pump?

Brand new fuel pump in the cell.

I believe they’ve tried a second crank sensor but i have to double check. Im on my way out to the glen now waiting on a response about the crank sensor.

Ok so he just sent me a message. They think it may be the fuel regulator.

This is what he said.

And it is the fuel pressure regulator we where able to log it and it runs out of duty cycle.
Which you increase by increasing the fuel pressure

Sounds like it can't get fuel when under load.

Are fuel lines hooked up to correct side of regulator?

new parts fail sometimes, stuff gets into tanks.   Check the pump, pump filter and line filter.

We had very similar symptoms with the e30 4 years ago. The problem was a loose / bad fuel pump ground wire. Replaced that wire and pop-riveted a new ground for it and the problem has never returned.
