ahunt032
Good morning everyone! Wondering if anyone out there has an external GPS that they want to get rid of. Looking to mount a tablet of some sort and run either Harry's or RaceChrono on it. I've been told we will need an external GPS to improve the accuracy of the tablet! Thanks! We ran Harry's this weekend at NCM on a cell phone without an external GPS and I think it worked great (but I have never used it with an external GPS so I can't compare). As a lap timer, it works fine. If you want to overlay data and compare drivers, the phone GPS is generally not so good. The phone just doesn't update often enough to get good resolution on the data. If you want good useable data to compare between drivers, get a GPS receiver that updates at least 10x/sec. If you just want lap times, 1/sec is fine. 1
Racer28173
^^^^ agree with all of that. The unit I posted is 10 per second, and you will still see some differences in the times it gets versus your transponder. With the lower resolution of the phone GPS, you will see a lot more deviation in times
