Thompson is upon us!

And welcome to the 12-hours of Thompson!
This time with headlights!

First, as always, please read through the Supplemental Rules here. There's lots of good information and the answer to many questions can be found there.

On the topic of arriving. Please do not rush to get there too early. Our load-in time starts at 12:00 noon. The entry point to the track backs up quickly to the main road and creates problems.

You will need to take your car through Tech inspection before coming to Registration. If you have a current Annual Tech you can come straight to Registration, otherwise, you must go through Tech first. Only one member (preferably the Team Captain) needs to come through Registration.

Many of you are running the practice/testing session on Friday. Please remember that you still need to get your car through Tech and registered. Also, any new drivers must attend the Novice / Champ school.

Drivers can bring their safety gear to Gear Check at any time.

Please check your team's membership status. Some drivers have expired memberships. It will greatly speed up the registration process if memberships and team registrations are fully paid up.

Novice / Champ School. Please note the time change to 5:00pm. You must attend this meeting Friday if you have never raced wheel-to-wheel before, or never raced with ChampCar before. If you have new members on your team, or if you have not raced with ChampCar this year you are encouraged to attend. Look at it this way, the more we discuss things on Friday, the shorter the driver's meeting on Saturday.

Still reading, wondering about your Pit Assignments?

Well, wonder no more... Your Pit Assignments are here.

One more time if you want to print out the Supplemental Rules for this event here.

If you have any questions about the Thompson race please email me

So.... Everyone who ran this event last year couldn't stop saying how much they enjoyed it!

And yes, we are running a longer event, and yes, we're going to have headlights this year. For those of you who recall me pushing that dark boundary a bit..

So how about some action for the New England area? We had a good turn out last year and I'd like to see us grow that number a bit. Turn wrenches or twist arms, whatever it takes, let's get some more teams signed up!

I actually wanna do this race.  However, with 2 little ones at home, my racing is limited for a few years...

I'll see y'all at gman instead.

Last year was a blast.  I think we had one caution early on, and that was it.  It got a little hairy as we faded to dark, but it just added to the excitement.  What a great event though, and a great facility.  This race is right in our backyard, so we've been preparing for it all year.  We're hoping a fresh build will move us up the field.  I can't wait for this race!

@djsteviec, you better be signing up for this one!

Dana,   Will this event have a test day on Friday ?

There is track time available on Friday, but it is not run by ChampCar. The event is run directly through the track.

So, unless people are just signing up late (like me)- I can't understand why this event is not sold out???

The track is great, ESPECIALLY for a momentum car! Fairly long from straight, a couple short straights in and out of the oval, a lot of technical parts and plenty of room for passing.

AND, dirt cheap entry! $750 entry for 12hrs of racing? Get your butts to Thompson!

Here is a video of Baller Racing Team at Thompson in July.

Lowtide Motorsports has open availability for this race. We currently provide crew services for a few Champcar teams, WRL, AER and SCCA. We are experienced crew members able to handle your entire weekend from load in to load out and all points in between to include all over the wall duties, communications, strategy etc... When I quote a weekend price for customers the typical response is “That’s a lot cheaper than I thought it would be”. If our cost is split amongst the drivers it is very low, most arrive and drive owners write our cost into their weekend budget and their drivers are happy to pay the difference. Check our schedule at www.lowtidemotorsports.com and if the weekend is open contact us at lowtidemotorsports@gmail.com or 912-398-4386 to discuss your next race!

I had 2 cars way faster than me follow me the last few laps and I'm pretty sure it's because I had headlights and was close to them.  I'll never forget following an E30 into turn 1 and he missed the apex by about 6ft through the grass, just guessing where it was.  That was exciting!

So camping at the track?  Are there showers?  Is there power at each camping spot? How does one reserve a spot?

Thanks

Ken #455

There is a designated camping on the track property. However it is not in or near the paddock. If you want to reserve a camping spot there you need to contact the track directly and arrange it. It's a nice campground, but it''s a good 5 or 10 minute ride depending on how busy the traffic is coming over the bridge to the paddock>

Thanks guys, I called the track Monday and they do have showers, but the camping area is only a “parking spot” there is no electric, sewer, water.  When I was talking to them they were not sure yet if they were offering camping for this event or not yet, they should have that information on there site this week is what I was told.

Showers are over at the oval track, last time I was there no hot water, but it was in October when the season was close to over.  You can walk over to them, not far, bike is better.

There is a good ice cream stand on the property, that has to count for something.

So for lights for this event.  We took out the conventional lights in the Miata not that they work for beans anyway.  Can we run one light bar that is under 8000lumens?  Per 9.9.2.2.1

or do we need two fixtures per 9.9.2.1.3?

i only ask as the two fixture is grouped under the conventional lights not the LED section.  Thanks!

From michael.chisek [6:36 PM]
1 led bar that produces 8000 lumens is ok.  That would be about a 3-foot bar.

A lot of teams are running 1 led fixture on each corner to illuminate the apex and 1 large light bar in the middle.

So a total of 3 led lights.
