Qualifying - Included in your entry fee

Go Kart Qualifying Rules and Schedule – Road America, October 19th,2018

This is all for fun, 100% optional and included with your entry fee. Anyone taking go kart qualifying too seriously may be disqualified from the go-kart races at the discretion of ChampCar Race Officials or Road America Motorplex Officials.

Each team will be given two qualifying spots (one in each Session) and each qualifying race must be driven by a registered driver on that team.

Your team must race in the races they have been assigned. No Exceptions!

The two qualifying races you participate in will be timed in a qualifying format. You are trying to get your fastest time. Only one time will be counted for your team.

15 fastest teams advance to the feature race. Details of the feature race will be discussed in the drivers meeting.

The finishing order of the feature race will determine starting order in the following days ChampCar race (details explained in drivers meeting). The rest of the starting lineup will use ChampCar’s standard procedure of choosing a random pit stall.

We're just over a week away from "The Frozen Rotors Winter Classic" at Road America. Below is the important info you need to know. Please read carefully!

General Info
  • Read the schedule and supplemental rules, found here
  • Team Captains Only: We will have 75+ teams signed up and only 43 pit stalls, that means everyone will be sharing.  If you work with a team (please ask them first) or are a multi-car team please let me know and I will pit you together, otherwise you will end up with whoever we put you with. Please email me any pit requests (Close to pit-in, close to pit-out, close to a team, away from a team, etc...) and we will do our best. Also, let me know if you are renting a garage so we can put you in line with your garage.
  • Road America is putting on a test day. Click here to sign up. Cost is $300/team and it includes all drivers. This also gets you into the paddock early on Thursday or Friday!
  • ALL drivers must have a current membership or your team will NOT be able to complete registration. They can sign up for their membership by logging in to their ChampCar account here. At the top of the page it will tell you if your membership is current, if it is not, there is a link to complete your membership. Registration will no longer add drivers at the track. Team Captains must register all drivers and complete all payments before they come to registration. This can be done at anytime before checking in at registration.
  • You must go though tech inspection or have already completed your 2018 annual tech before you can go to registration.  Please make sure you bring your log book to registration.
  • Everyone must sign both the ChampCar waiver and the Road America waiver before they can enter the paddock. You will then be issued a waiver wristband that you must wear all weekend.  You can sign the waiver at the ticket window at the registration building during registration hours. If you show up after registration is closed you will not be able to enter the track until the next day.
Annual Tech for 2018
  • Tech will be held at the scale house next to the garages, look for the flags.
  • The complete rules along with the latest revisions are posted on the ChampCar web page here.
  • Remember you are responsible for declaring all modifications to your car.
  • You need to have someone knowledgeable with your car in case we have any questions.
  • Be sure to look up your Vehicle Performance Index (VPI) value before you arrive at tech inspection.
  • Be prepared to jack up your car and remove wheels.
  • Bring your log book if you've been issued one.
  • Bring your completed tech form, filled out legibly.(you'll need the second sheet for any power train swaps)    Tech Form  Swap Form
  • You should have an itemized list of all your non exempt components you are declaring in tech.
If you have a 2018 tech sticker on your car and haven't changed anything there is no need to go through tech, but please make sure to bring your log book to registration.  Also, don't forget to have your gear annually checked for the 2018 season.
If you entered a transponder number while you where registering we assume you're bringing your own.  Please verify that you have entered the correct number or that you reserved a transponder if you're not supplying your own.

Supplemental Rules
Just a reminder, we need you to look at the supplemental rules for this event.  They can be found here
If you have questions about the race email me and I will respond ASAP. For questions about registration or payment process please contact Laura.
Local Sponsors
Local part time ChampCar staffer Denny Morgan has rounded up some great Wisconsin sponsors for the event and we will be handing these prizes out during the awards ceremony.  Prizes include Landjaeger, beer, cheese, a free stay at Siebkens for the ChampCar April 2019 weekend, plus more!

We're looking forward to seeing you all at Road America!

See you at the track -
The ChampCar Staff

We should put Dylan on the drivers list and accidentally never have him drive through the weekend.  He would smoke me.

I qualified 1st or 2nd at pitt race when we did this a few years ago!  Super excited!

@red0 won some races on that karting track 20-some years ago.... Premium Dudes should be a shoo-in for pole!

I actually only ran once, I set a track record on the opening event but did not win. Since I’m about 280# on a good day I would probably get dead last in rental karts. Give me a direct drive two stroke and I might have better luck.

Of course, even if you get pole, Ludicrous Speed will be passing you by the third lap.....

If we had pole which is very unlikely and not a huge deal in an enduro they would pass us before turn one. We can’t compete with that kind of performance, they have built a very impressive car.

It still sounds fun as can be and  Champcar is always a blast.

Almost like easy points right? Insert green font here

Well, Premium Dudes DID come out of Brainerd with 3 points, so @enginerd wasn't too far off his pre race strategy/plan there.....

The kart qualifying is really not doing it for me.    Might as well go full gimmick and add a second layer to it.  Maybe a three legged race down pit lane for the top 5 to enter one the final pole position.    Yea I know I'm a really slow kart driver fun hater. 😁
