JAZ Pro Sport vs ATi/Fuel Safe

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with the JAZ pro sport? Is it any less safe than ATI/Fuel Safe? Any disadvantages?

The plate seems very small.

I have found a really nice mount for it (http://www.artecindustries.com/Fuel-Cell-Mount-for-JAZ-Pro-Sport-22-gallon_p_273.html). Plan would be to mount it between the strut towers in a 280zx, the mount would be welded to 2 thick bars.

I haven't found anyone doing fuel cages for Fuel Safe or ATI. Surprizes me.

Don't really care if it's a few hundred cheaper, just want something that works well. Already spent a couple of millions on my broken non functional race car.

Sure. Jaz are hard rotary molded plastic tanks with some foam and a certification sticker attached to the cell for an extra fee.

ATL, Fuel Safe and Pyrotect Cells are true rubber/kevlar bladders that will deform and are very hard to rupture in an accident. Also filled with foam and have a larger fill plate for internal sumps/pumps and level indicator if needed.

If your are looking for a new cell I can get you a new Pyrotect Cell which has an SFI and FIA certification at a fair price. Multiple configurations and sizes.

Ok, so the others are way more safe! Thanks! That wasn't clear to me.

How does Pyrotect compare to ATI/Fuel Safe?

Does sfi just sell stickers to anyone without meeting standards or testing ?

I think JAZ might be the only company that does this and I am not sure the process.

From their website:

Do the Polyethylene fuel cells carry SFI certification?

Most JAZ Products polyethylene fuel cells exceed SFI Spec. 28.1, but only the fuel cells labeled “THIS FUEL CELL CARRIES SFI CERTIFICATION” are actually certified. Only the fuel cells that are specifically designed for classes that require SFI certification receive a serial number and SFI label. If the fuel cell you require does not come standard with certification, JAZ Products can SFI certify any polyethylene, Pro Sport, or Specialized cell (with foam) for a nominal fee of $50.00.

I know. We run a jaz cell.    I’ve speculated that they don’t certify all of them because many of their customers are running with a sanctioning body that doesn’t require it so they save those folks a nice little bit of cash.

I dont know any any more about the technical aspects than that.   I would assume however that sfi doesn’t just sell stickers for units that don’t meet the standards.

The more PC statement would be SFI "charges" for the stickers. If you don't pay the protection racket licensing fee, you can sell the product cheaper. :)

One of the biggest downsides to the Jaz fuel cells is the lack of sizes, they jump from 16 to 22 gallons which makes it hard to find a proper size for the typical ChampCar. I run a 16 gallon which is stock size for my car,  I would not argue that a Kevlar bladder design is safer but we have had good service out of the Jaz cell, I only wish I had the extra 2 gallons that I could run by the rules.

Radium Engineering has an awesome fuel cell with build in surge tank set up.  They take one of their Fuel Cell Surge Tanks and send it off to Fuel Safe to have it installed in a fuel cell of your choice.  Fuel Safe's Enduro Cell seems to be a good choice for Champcar and comes in 8, 10, 12, 15, 22, and 32 gallon options.

That thing is awesome!

Would be nice if they had a level sensor inside the surge tank. Or a flow meter on the fuel into the surge tank. Or maybe measure current on the lift pump?

How else do you know your about to run out of fuel?

You would just have to rely on sender in the cell.
