There was a black E36 with a black Fuel Safe cell visible under the rear bumper (#285 maybe? had an oval tailpipe) on Sunday that was smoking like crazy and absolutely *dumping* fuel (visibly, from the top of the cell) in the 10:30-12 timeframe... tried to radio it in but apparently my headset was on the fritz.  Eventually spun in turn 12/13?

Ya'll REALLY need to get that looked at...

I saw that! Wasn’t sure if maybe they had just fueled and had some overflow issues.

Pretty sure we got mixed up with the same car on Saturday.

My understanding is that the Triumph saw them drop some gas in the straight between 11/12 around 6.5 hour in and had an evasive maneuver that punted us into the wall.

Fortunately our driver walked away without any issues, but our car wasn't so lucky.

Understand there are risks in racing, but still shaking my head that this is how my car got bagged.

First, let me say, we had a great weekend.

Haven't been to Pitt to race in a few years and the new track is awesome!

Thanks to the track, Champcar and everyone that was there.

In regards to Sahlens/Troxell incidents:

In the Champcar live feed for Sunday, at the 6:43 mark in the video, Troxell #09 makes contact with Mustard twice.

Was he blocking. I would say so and based on the no contact rule, he gets black flagged.

(BTW...I would love to see the video from Charcoal or #09 for the spin incident at 6:49 in the live feed... a little hard to tell if Charcoal got squeezed and #09 made the contact and spun or if Charcoal went wide and gave #09 a tap... I will see if I can find some other footage on that)

With that being stated... If you watch Mustard prior to (several laps) and after that (several laps), for turn 1, he sets up down the front stretch to the outside of turn 1 and comes down and hits the apex... as is the line and expected...

Now, fast forward to 7:17 in the video (last lap or next to it)

Troxell #325 is behind Mustard as he was passed a lap back.

Troxell gets a run down the front stretch on the inside. You can see Mustard driving in the mirrors. Mustard never sets up to the outside of 1 like he normally would for the ideal line and stays pretty tight to the left/center. In my opinion, he blocks and bumps #325 twice. Troxell did a good job not to panic and keep the car straight.

Here was the in car of what #325 saw during that bumping: (watch #325's hands... he never moves the wheel to the right, so IMHO, mustard came down on him and initiated the contact/block both times). How was this any different from what Troxell #09 did a few laps back and was black flagged for? Should it matter that this was the last lap or not? Had #325 got pushed a little harder to the left (I think he already had a wheel or two off), I believe the outcome would have been pretty bad had he spun from it...)  Should that not have been a 2 min penalty for Mustard like the #09 based on the contact?

I'll go get the popcorn ready...

Lake Effect Racing had a positive run with a untested Ford Focus car with the champcar configuration. We had a stud problem Saturday which sent the passenger wheel flying. We were able to get back going and finish Saturday. Sunday was going well until a wheel bearing with less then 2 hours sent us home. Our Crew member won the Sportsmanship which was well deserved. There were 2 miatas that made contact with us, one of the drivers came and apologized which was much appreciated, as we luckily no major damage was caused in either. There were alot cars cutting it close on the passes but the E30 Just 4 Fun Motorsports (I think it was them) super clean driving, hats off too them. Our car needs some further development, but we hope to be on pace next year.

Oh man, what a way to go out :(  Bad spot on track to jink right (looking at you, Triumph driver), regardless of the situation...

I saw that car practically drifting through turns 7&8. In the paddock it looked like it had 10° of camber. Maybe he tocuched the edge of track and it jumped right on him?

Passing car has the responsibility to make a clean pass.

That being said, ya gotta leave room for the other guy.

I did block the crap out of the ec 944 on Sunday morning.  He was sooo slow through the corners in the wet and had massive hp down the straights.

I zigged and zagged down the main straight so he didn't have a way by.  I left him for the next 10 laps until it dried up.  Next time I saw him, he caught me in the corner and I pointed him by.

It felt crappy, but I was probably running 4 seconds plus faster laptime.  He was sooo slow in the corners....

Ya'll are welcome for the Southern weather we brought with us... 😉

Big shout out to our pit mates BMTRBLU for helping us with our pit stops.

We felt good about our finishing position on Saturday given two of the three of us had never been to the track prior.

Sunday we had a transmission issue and retired the car after 3.5 hours.

All things considered, decent weekend.

The 09 was laps down, and ruining what was setting up to be a good finish.

It was great fun to watch! Epic race and unbelievable live coverage. @Bill Strong couldn’t have picked a better car to put the camera in.

Agreed!   I was amazed watching this all unfold. When I saw a quick flash of charcoal and green come together and go flying out of the picture, I had to rethink all that I was seeing. ChampCar, the teams, the on track racing, and the broadcast product are all evolving very rapidly. As a lifelong race fan, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this race.

The Glazed and Confused Miatas were very impressive.  Any idea what's their setup?

Miata with good drivers and good strategy? They didn't seen outrageously fast, just good all around.

I talked to someone Friday or Saturday night that had the yellow Miata that was shooting flames. He was telling me how they kept considering an engine swap because they thought they didn’t have enough power to be fast. Apparently they put in some hot shoe at a test day and he bested all of them by 4-5 seconds a lap. Makes me realize the best thing for our car/team is track time and practice. I know from April to September I picked up 7 seconds at Nelson Ledges just being confident and refining my skills.
