Bought a 1987 volvo GLE for 250$.  5 speed.

Gutted it. had local shop weld in a cage for ChCar and LeCar specs.  with net.

hood/trunk pins.  blade rear nascar style spoiler.

Installed dual sway bars in the rear.

Had rear lower control arms boxed and welded.

Obtained a 4.10 gear G80 locker rear diff. installed it.

installed kirkley seat and sparco wheel.

Found set of vintage 5 spoke fitipaldi wheels  15x7.

car was 250$.   cage and bracing and wing and seat mount and window net. frame welding was 3,000$.

Looking to sell or trade. value of car is about 500$. value of cage and misc is about 1000. value is about 1,500 the way it is.

  • 2 weeks later...

it is a good sized tank. and the red block volvo engine is an unkillable boat motor.  my plan was to turn laps for days..

might not win with out a +t swap or complete motor swap.

but it should turn laps all day long..

was going to junkyard a 5.3 into it.  or a 4.6/5.4 ford into it as the red block wore out. or blew up. or we got tired of it.

I need the garage space..  new car coming next week.

Offers? wanna work with me on it?

Das turbo van!..  that was going to be the tow vehicle for this. but the van has done nothing but broke since day one.

5 speed. turbo. 18PSI.   currently low oil pressure when hot.

in one of the van pics, i spy a SDAC sticker as well.  I've had more TD's than you can shake a stick at.  pair of 87 GLHSs, 87 Shelby Lancer, IROC R/Ts, GLH-T, GLH, Daytonas, pretty much the whole gambit.

And you're not racing one? I would have thought they'd make a good Champcar.

i seriously thought about it.  I even found a few good former SCCA and IROC cars that i thought about doing.

I drove a new '84 Daytona turbo in an autocross for a local dealership in their annual dealership challenge and was surprised at how well sorted the car was for the time. About the only improvement I would have made for the street at least was wider tires. Nice package. It didn't hurt that I won the event. :)

I've only had a few K-cars and such from that time but I had fun with them!

If you look at the pics closely..  there are TWO turbo vans... one gold one owner auto.. and one fairly ragged 90 5 speed voyager..
