Jab31169
Any other teams/folks going to 24 at Daytona this year? Will be my first time down for the race. We've got the whole team plus some extras headed down for it this year. Looking forward to it!!
pintodave
We go just about every year - by 'we' it usually turns into a good chunk of Lead Sled Racing and other affiliates & accomplices. Sometimes we get a little wild and crash out there (or Uber home reallllly late), other times we just wander around and harass people we know and only have a couple beers and get out. Being locals we usually just make the call depending on the weather. Do you have a spot or area reserved yet? We have a group of peeps that has multiple spots grouped together in between Nascar 3/4, and a few other groups scattered throughout the infield. Also, depending on when y'all get to town, we can meet up or guide you around to some decent local spots depending on what you are looking for.
Jab31169
I have no idea what our plan is for the weekend. We get in Friday, staying at a airbnb at Flagler Beach (Closest place we could find that would fit all of us). Most of us are instructing at the Ferrari club that Monday afterwards. I've still got your number somewhere, but I'll get with ya when the date gets closer. Gotta find me a decent backpack cooler and steal a bird scooter for the weekend.

MoparBoyy
Living 40 mins away I always make the call last minute. Sometimes just head out for the Saturday, depends on evening weather. we will be a Sebring for sure.
gsmith2424
If I go I will more than likely be working it with F&C and with that have pit lane access when not on station. The last time I went as a spectator was back in 2014. The first time I went however was back in 2004 and that one still stands out to me as I remember hearing a call going out over the radio at about 1 AM that Goodyear sold out of rain tires. Chill beach town. About 30-40 min to the track, but very scenic if you take A1A. I should have your number too, but who knows if I saved it after that long weekend, just shoot me a PM.

BoiledPeanut
I switched to the Roar Before the 24. Same cars but 1/4 the crowd and amazing garage access.

oddcarnut
I'll be at Roar, the 24 and super Sebring as my day job with Michelin pretty much makes being there a requirement. Feel free to swing by the Michelin tire compound and say hello. Ken

Do they clear out each night?
tyler_j
I plan on going again with 3-4 other buddies from NC. Will be tent camping outside turn 1/2 , although last year we only spent about 2-3 hours at the campsite. We have never been to the Roar but always wanted to. Maybe next year we can get down there for that too.
Justin9
Either last year or the year before, dad and I just slept in the back of an expedition in the bass pro parking lot... lol.

The only camping is for the Scouts, unless it has changed.
Justin9
I can confirm I'll be at another Rolex.. tickets ordered. Dad and I usually start the race in the grandstands at the end of pit road / going into infield turn 1.
Jab31169
Had a freaking blast, even in the rain. Hated to see the red flag end the race but at the rate yellows were coming out and cars were going off it had to be done. We had a track day on Monday with the Ferrari club and the track was still soaking wet until after lunch. Turn 6 was an ice rink. And we had fun with the Turner guys (I may have taken my shirt off during the red flag in the grandstands...the very top of the grandstands, click the link for the embedded video):
Technical Advisory Committee mcoppola Posted January 30, 2019 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted January 30, 2019 (edited) I've been meaning to post about this since watching the race this past weekend. Did anyone else see the #24 BMW driver changes showing Alex Zanardi getting into the car? Or even more impressive were the changes when he got out, spun himself around and hopped up on the rocker panel of the car and helped the next driver get belted in. The interview with team owner Bobby Rahal, and with other team members conveyed what a mental boost it was to have Zananrdi as a teammate. Even Zanardi himself said he doesn't regret the Indycar accident where he lost his legs, because it made him the person he is today. Watching him hobble around was sad in a way, but inspiring in so many other ways. The accomplishments this man has achieved since his accident are truly awesome. I don't recall the entire list, but he become a triathlete, and has won 4 gold medals at the para-olympic games in various events.... Best of all is his attitude and positive mental outlook about everything he now does. Edited January 30, 2019 by mcoppola
