Ventus R-S3 Target Pressure

Recommended Posts

Landed a set of new Hancook Ventus R-S3, yeah I know there is a "4" but we are not talking about those today.

What should we be shooting for hot pressure, bonus if anyone can compare them directly to Dunlop Direzza Star Spec II

245/40-17 on 9in rims, heavy car.

Probably 34ish hot.

That was what we ran on our car back in the day on a lighter car with smaller tires with these tires.  I'm assuming rs3v2.  I never ran the v1.

I ran rs3 v2 because I liked them better than the direzza regular zii, but never tried the star spec zii.

Sebring update:

With everything the same, when running the rs3 we, for the first time, had a very tight, pushy car, a couple of pressure attempts were made but we gave up and rode it out till the end of day 1, during post race impound it was discovered we had picked up some debris/got a slow leak in the best tire, the next best was okish but 2 were not going to do another tough day.

We switched to our backup set of sticker Maxxis tires and were MUCH happier.

Trying to reduce the tire bill, dunlops aint cheap! Anyone able to directly compare the rs3 to rs4 or the rs4 to dunlop3?

You drove my car on rs4s.  We start around 25 cold.

Rs3 < rival < rival s < maxxis < rs4 < re71.

That's my order from least to most grippy.  Gave up on the Dunlop after some testing if the zii and zii star spec.

Rs3 are good at dealing with heat but they are several year old tire at this point.  Rs4 deal with heat the best and provide close to the same grip as the re71.  The re71 is still faster, but wear too quickly imho.

We set our car up on rs3 years ago.  We had to change the setup a good deal to run the rivals.  The rivals and the rs4 seem to like a similar setup based on tire temps.

I don't think I answered your question, but tried to give my opinion based on my direct experiences and testing.

There are also 2 versions of rs3.  The original rs3 was kinda crap.  No way of knowing which version you got as far as I know unless you purchased them from tire rack.  Tire rack sold them as rs3 v2 for the good ones.

We're switching from Z3s to R-S4s. We almost got a chance to compare them but had to revert to our spares at ORP.

The idea for us switching is to reduce cost and to go faster as well. The Z3s seem to be reasonable at moderate temps but our tire wear escalated quickly with higher ambient temps.

I don’t necessarily need to head to head comparison same track same drivers, all I need is how good do they wear how good of a grip when abused

Ed, we started with the RS3 V2 in 2015 then switched to the RS4 when they came out.  There was a night and day difference between the two grip wise. As for wear we have never really had a problem with either tire unless I screwed up the alignment.

Made a 5th with em in a 80 car field.

Worth it for the $200 I paid for the rims and tires but there are no more where those came from.

Yep, I saw that!  Good job!

We won a race on rs4.  I know at least 1 car on the podium at road America had rs4.

They last for a long time and have great grip.

I don't think there is a better tire for cars in the series at any cost.
